The canal will be the third megaproject in the city after a new continent-crossing bridge was completed in 2016 and the world’s largest airport will be finished by the end of the year. Yet, the government’s vision for a new canal also carries extensive geo-economic consequences for the Black Sea domain. Mega Project Canal Istanbul
Mega project Canal Istanbul with English dubbing. Crazy Project Canal Istanbul Kanal Istanbul is the Turkish project name of the artificial sea-level waterway, which is being built by the Republic of Turkey on the European side of Turkey, connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, and hence to the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. Kanal İstanbul would bisect the current European side of Istanbul and thus form an island between the continents of Asia and Europe (the island would have a shoreline with the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, the new canal and the Bosphorus). The new waterway would bypass the current Bosphorus. Kanal İstanbul aims to minimise shipping traffic in the Istanbul Strait. The project is intended for the 100th anniversary in 2023 of the foundation of the Turkish Republic.

White Sea – Baltic Canal, Russia 4K
White Sea – Baltic Canal, Russia 4K The White Sea–Baltic Canal often abbreviated to White Sea Canal (Belomorkanal) is a ship canal in Russia opened on 2 August 1933. It connects the White Sea, in the Arctic Ocean, with Lake Onega, which is further connected to the Baltic Sea. Until 1961, its original name was the Stalin White Sea–Baltic Canal (Belomorsko–Baltiyskiy Kanal imeni Stalina). The canal was constructed by forced labor of gulag inmates. During its construction by a total of 126,000 workers, about 12,000 died, according to the official records. The canal runs partially along several canalized rivers and Lake Vygozero. The total length of the route is 227 kilometers (141 mi). As of 2008, the canal sees only light traffic, carrying between ten and forty boats per day. Its economic advantages are limited by its minimal depth of 3.5 m (11.5 ft), inadequate for most sea-going vessels. The canal was originally proposed to be 5.4 m (17.7 ft) deep; however, various cost issues forced completion to a much lesser depth. This depth typically corresponds to river craft with deadweight cargo up to 600t, whilst useful sea going vessels of 2,000–3,000 dwt typically have drafts of 4.5–6 m (15–20 ft) Waterway ==================== The total waterway length is 227 kilometers (141 mi), of which 48 kilometers (30 mi) are man-made. The current flows north from Lake Onega to the White Sea, and all navigation marks are set according to it. Once in Lake Onega, ships can exit the southwest shore through the Svir River (and its two locks) to reach Lake Ladoga and then proceed down the Neva River to Saint Petersburg and the Baltic Sea. Alternatively, from Lake Onega river ships can sail eastward into the Volga–Baltic Waterway. Canal route ========== The canal begins near Povenets settlement in Povenets bay of Lake Onega. After Povenets there are seven locks close together, forming the "Stairs of Povenets". These locks are the southern slope of the canal. The canal summit pond at 103 meters elevation is 22 kilometers (14 mi) long between locks 7 & 8. The northern slope has twelve locks numbered 8–19. The route of the northern slope runs through five large lakes; Lake Matkozero between locks 8 & 9, Lake Vygozero between locks 9 & 10, Lake Palagorka between locks 10 & 11, Lake Voitskoye between locks 11 & 12 and Lake Matkozhnya between locks 13 & 14. The canal empties out into the Soroka Bay of the White Sea at Belomorsk. The settlements of Povenets, Segezha, Nadvoitsy, Sosnovets, and Belomorsk are located along the canal. Sailing conditions =============== Minimum lock dimensions are 14.3 meters (47 ft) wide by 135 meters (443 ft) long. The navigable channel is 36 meters (118 ft) wide and 3.5 meters (11.5 ft) deep, with a radius of curvature of 500 meters (1,640 ft). Speed is limited to 8 kilometers per hour (4.3 kn; 5.0 mph) in all artificial portions. In conditions of low visibility (defined as less than one kilometer) navigation is halted. For the navigation seasons of 2008 to 2010, the canal locks were scheduled to operate from 20 May each year until 15–30 October, giving 148–163 navigation days per year. The canal and Russian writers ============================ A carefully prepared visit in August 1933 to the White Sea–Baltic Canal may have hidden the worst of the brutality from a group of 120 Russian writers and artists, the so-called Writers Brigade, including Maxim Gorky, Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy, Viktor Shklovsky, and Mikhail Zoshchenko, who compiled a work in praise of the project, the 600-page Stalin White Sea–Baltic Canal, published at the end of 1934. Shklovsky visited Belomorkanal on his own and did not travel there with the group organized by Gorky. Gorky himself did not travel with the Brigade but instead organized the trip. Gorky had previously visited the Solovetski Islands labor camp in 1929 and wrote about it in the Soviet journal Our Accomplishments. Additionally, it is doubtful that all of the writers involved in the project were unaware of the brutality or actual living conditions present in the camp. In fact, one of the contributors, Sergei Alymov, was a prisoner at the Belomor camp and was the editor for the camp newspaper Perekovka, ("Re-forging"). Similarly, Aleksandr Avdeenko's account of the trip to Belomor includes conversations between OGPU chief Semyon Firin and Prince Mirsky that reveal at least some of the writers were aware of the true nature of Belomor.

Administrated from Agigea, it is an important part of the European canal system that links the North Sea to the Black Sea. The main branch of the canal, with a length of 64.4 km , which connects the Port of Cernavodă with the Port of Constanța, was built between 1976–1984, while the north branch, known as the Poarta Albă – Midia Năvodari Canal, with a length of 31.2 km , connecting Poarta Albă and Port of Midia, was built between 1983–1987.The Canal was notorious as the site of labor camps in early 1950s Communist Romania, when at any given time, up to 20,000 political prisoners worked on its excavation. The total number of people used as a workforce for the entire period is unknown, with the total number of deaths estimated at several thousand. These works were later used in the Carasu irrigation system. ------ To see your favorite topic here, fill out this request form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScU0dLbeWsc01IC0AaO8sgaSgxMFtvBL31c_pjnwEZUiq99Fw/viewform ------ Source: Wikipedia.org articles, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. What They Found In The Middle Of The Ocean Will Truly Surprise You...
Description: Well hello there, Supreme fans! Welcome back to another episode of your favorite entertainment channel on YouTube – The Supreme! Today, just like every day – we have a brand-new video lined up for you! We’ll be exploring the cool world of mysterious things that have been found in open water – with today’s title – What They Found in the Middle of the Ocean Will Truly Surprise You! 10 That’s No Fish So up first on today’s list we have some pretty crazy footage that was captured as recently as February of 2019. Check this out – a crew of fisherman were out in the middle of open water, looking for that day’s big catch. But then, suddenly 0 they noticed something floating in the water – not too far from where the boat was located. So, they did what any group of young men would do when they’re faced with an unknown entity in an unknown location – they went in to investigate! What, that wouldn’t be your first inclination? Haha well anyway, after maneuvering their boat much closer so that they could see, they realized the impossible. 9 Heracleion So up next we have something that was discovered under water that is pretty remarkable, because it isn’t just a singular item that was found. After more than 1200 years of being trapped under water – the Lost Egyptian City of Heracleion, what’s also know as Thonis, was stumbled upon by a French archaeologist named Franck Goddio. The story goes that he saw a face emerge from the shadows of the water, and upon his investigation he revealed the remnants of the ancient city, that was submerged over 150 feet underwater off the coast of Alexandria. At the time the age old city was believed to only be a legend, but according to some researched this city was likely founded near the 8thh century BC. How amazing is it that an entire city could be washed away like that? 8 Oldest Shipwreck in History So up next we have another unique piece of history that was uncovered from the depths of the vast ocean. In late 2017 an Ancient Greek ship – the most ancient of all sunken ships found anywhere on the planet, in fact – was found by a archeologists more than 2 kilometers under the surface of the Black Sea. The Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project, which featured archeologists from Britain and Bulgaria, uncovered this ship along with 60 other ships that covered over 2000 square kilometers of sea-floor. After scientists removed a piece of the ship in order to carbon date it to see how old it is – the tests came back suggesting that this extremely large, and ancient boat dates all the way back to the year 400BC – making this the oldest in tact ship ever found underwater – anywhere on the planet. 7 The Train Gra In the spirit of moving this train right along, up next on today’s countdown of mysterious things found in the middle of the ocean – we actually have a train. As a matter of fact it’s actually more than one train – as this has often been dubbed as the infamous train graveyard. At just under 90 feet underwater, off the coast of New Jersey, two locomotives that went missing back in the 1850s are resting here, so to speak. The creepy thing here though is that no one knows how these two trains sunk here in the first place. It’s assumed that the two trains were being transported by a large ship, when suddenly a storm came out of nowhere, forcing the trains overboard – or even being deliberately pushed off by the crew, as a means to save space and relieve the vessel of some unnecessary weight. Either way, the exact reason isn’t known – as the records from that time regarding this event simply don’t exist. 6 Apollo Moon Rocket Engine 5 ?? 4 ?? 3 ?? 2 ?? 1 ?? The first of a new series of short films documenting Nick's fascination with all forms of transport, in particularly his narrow boat which 25 years ago he sailed from the UK to the Black Sea, the longest narrowboat journey ever. Having biked to Mongolia twice in the last 12 months, the bike was trucked across Russia to Wales. This short journey is about transporting his Yamaha Tracer 700 on his canal boat from Wales to Motorcycle Live in Birmingham.
