Welcome to the fourth video of my series, “How to Turn Your Expertise into a Book That Boosts Your Business and Brand.” In my last video, I talked about using stories as a tool to highlight your expertise. In this video, I’ll share how to grow your content into a fully fleshed out book. Sharing your knowledge isn’t enough. You need to back your message with evidence, statistics, and outside perspectives. This strengthens your credibility and validates your personal experience. This is essential if you are just starting your business. This is easier than you may think! Here are 3 ways to develop your book with outside content: The first way is to use evidence from a recent study or poll. There are new reports each month spotlighting different aspects of business, human relationships, families, and so on. Including hard data is an indispensible way to show that your ideas have relevance to your readers’ lives. It backs up your opinions with facts and supports your point of view. The second way is to interview another expert in your field or in a complementary field who can add another perspective that supports your message. This establishes credibility with your readers. The third way is to conduct your own survey. See what new ideas or conversations are happening in your tribe. Google Docs and SurveyMonkey have great survey tools. This will tell you what your potential readers care about most. You can then use this information to generate more anecdotes, which helps your audience relate to your content. By encouraging readers to share their perspectives, you’re building a loyal audience for your book. In my next video, I’ll offer insider tips for choosing the right publishing options. We're gonna talk our topic of the day is imposter syndrome so I've got a few comments and thoughts around that I know it's something that pretty much every nonfiction author has to face at some point in their writers journey Paul you an tell me if if a children's book author actually feels impostor syndrome ever as well because I kind of feel like everybody faces this at some point but I know definitely when you're writing a nonfiction book and you're thinking I have to put myself out there as the expert and there's some pressure and and different types of people feel different pressures around this but pretty much universally everybody I know that's writing or written a nonfiction book goes through this we're gonna have a quick chat about that give you some tips around it and we're going to do the draw for the Friday commenter and if you don't know what that's all about I'll explain it when we get there and I also thought I might throw in an extra topic around Amazon reviews disappearing because I've been on a few publishing forums lately where people are going I've lost a bunch of my reviews what's happened and I have not an inside scoop on this I've just been reading up on it and if that's happened to you I've got a couple not tips but just explanations as to what's going on all right okay awesome impostor syndrome for sure nonfiction authors but yeah at Paul Paul's written children's books so I was curious if children's book authors feel this impostor syndrome too so when we get to that you can let us know Paul okay so today's first look book review I'm really excited to share this one with you I've got it right. These rules are distilled down from the things that I learned by going to Art Center College of Design. Generally speaking, there are two types of typography– expressive typography (type is visual, carries the meaning of the word and sometimes appears as physical shapes) and functional typography (type that is meant to be read). I will focus on the latter. When starting out, it is best to learn the fundamentals of good design: hierarchy (primary, secondary and tierchiary reads), flow (how a person “reads” the layout by following the movement of their attention), legibility (in Western culture, type is read top to bottom, left to right so it’s important to arrange type accordingly), grouping (organizing blocks of type in intelligent and logical groups) and interest, achieved through contrast (scale, texture, color, density, negative space).
