Which brands are “fast fashion”? How to tell (in 4 points) ǀ Justine Leconte

06:51
Fast fashion means that the brands produce in countries where labor is very cheap because the laws don't protect the garment workers. The clothes produced are of poor quality and execution, and they get sold at incredibly cheap prices in "rich countries". Since they are trendy in design, they will get out of fashion quite quickly. In fact, fast fashion brands even release new collections every 2 weeks, to make clothes previously purchased... obsolete. How to tell if a brand is "fast fashion": 1. Look at the brands producing in countries and factories where accidents happen. These brands clearly don't care about where and how their clothes get produced... 2. Research to which larger corporations these brands belong. It is very likely that a huge corporation like Inditex (Zara, Mango...) uses similar production methods for all its brands. 3. Understand the mindset of the brands / corporations that belong to the fast fashion industry: if they outsource their productions to countries where labor rights aren't respected, it is probably not to be charitable. Then claiming to use organic cotton (as an example of PR action) just can't make it up for ethically questionable practices. 4. Learn the break down of a price tag. If a Primark t-shirt costs 5€ in retail, how much of that actually goes to the garment worker? Zara Masters the Art of Retail | The Beast File

03:03
Subscribe for more Hungry Beast: http://bit.ly/HungryBeast Meet Zara: the Spanish company at the forefront of Fast Fashion, where speed and disposability are the new black. Launched in 1975, Zara now has almost 2000 stores in 77 countries. Its parent company, Inditex, turned over $17 billion last year, helping reclusive founder Amancio Ortega -- a railway worker's son -- become the 7th richest man in the world. Zara's HQ is a futuristic building known as "The Cube" in La Coruña, northwestern Spain. From there, staff churn out 30,000 designs a year, near carbon copies of fashion's big names. Lightning-fast, locally-targeted designs are Zara's specialty: when Madonna played three weeks of European concerts in 2001, teenage girls went to her later shows wearing knock-offs of the outfit from her first performance. Zara's 'vertically integrated' business model limits outsourcing, making most of its catwalk copies in-house and ensuring better quality control. When it does use cheap labour, it mostly uses poorer European countries over the developing world. Garments hit shop floors within three weeks of design -- blitzing the industry average of six months. Fashion used to be sold in four seasons. Zara wants you to buy for one-hundred-and-four. New clothes arrive in every store twice a week -- days known by fans as "Z Days" -- and fuel the need to turn over your wardrobe. The brand's global distribution centre, also in Spain, moves 2.5 million items per week. Nothing remains warehoused longer than 72 hours. Clothes are ironed in advance and packed on hangers with security and price tags affixed, saving store staff 'prime selling time'. Records are kept of any clothes tried on but not bought, sent back to Spain along with all cash register data. Customers visit Zara on average six times more often than its competitors, causing rival stores to dread its arrival on their turf. When Zara opened a store in China last year, one industry commentator noted "it just murdered everything around it". And when the doors of Zara's first Australian store opened in Sydney in April, 80% of the stock was snapped up within three minutes. Shoppers might love Zara but fashion's elite are not so happy. One unnamed designer complained "we spend a fortune researching and working up ideas, then Zara comes along and walks off with them for nothing". Zara has achieved global success with almost zero advertising, which its founder calls a "pointless distraction". Zara. Fast, affordable, pre-packaged fashion. A business built on speed, designed for addiction. How ZARA Took Over The Fashion World

Get your custom domain for 10% off at http://hover.com/ProactiveThinker You will stay poor if you think like this: https://goo.gl/1BCJgq why you will never get rich: https://goo.gl/zkFTpw For more great content! Instagram: https://goo.gl/vzBDdg Facebook: https://goo.gl/DZmAeM Twitter: https://goo.gl/6gvG4T #Business #Fashion When we think at some of the greatest companies in the world, we think of examples such as Google, Amazon and so on. But one of the richest men in the world has made his fortune through the most traditional business you can think about - selling clothes. In fact, in the summer of 2017, the shares of his company soared and for a couple of hours and he held the title of the richest man in the world. But Gates claimed back his position later on the same day. Without any formal education except for the first few years in school, he has built the largest clothing company in the entire world. It all started in Spain. Back then child labor was normal. So Amancio left school at the age of 13 to start working as a delivery boy in a local shirtmaker shop. Where he learned to make clothes by hand. He loved his job and started excelling at it, so much that by the time he was 24, he was appointed as a manager. Not bad for the 1960s, right? Ortega realized that only the wealthy residents could afford their clothes so he started working on his own designs that are more affordable. He started producing pretty similar designs but at a much lower cost targeting the rest of the residents. His strategy work out and he successfully sold all of his designs and used the earnings to open his first factory in 1963 Finally, in 1975, he decided to establish his own brand and named Zara. Zara’s strategy was absolutely simple, sell quality products for a reasonable price so that everyone could afford them. This strategy seems so obvious, why others didn't use it. When Ortega was working in that shirtmaker store. He realized that how the cost of the garments significantly increase when they move from designers to factories to stores. He learned the importance of delivering products directly to consumers without third-party distributors. So Zara started doing everything by itself. This reducing the cost But Ortego’s ambitions didn't stop there, it was time to go international. He established his first store outside Spanish borders in Portugal, in 1988. And a year later In New York. And since then the company has been unstoppable. Ortega realized he can't target all the segments of the market through Zara. So he acquired many different brands such as Pull&Bear, Bershka, Massimo Dutti and so on. And formed them all under a holding company - Inditex. But Zara is the biggest of them, it accounts for over 60% of total sales. Unlike other brands, Zara didn't waste money on advertisements. It knew that as long as there are quality clothes for affordable prices, people are going to buy them, so they kept opening new stores instead. By the year 2000, Zara had stores all around North America and Europe. So it was time to invade Asia and the rest of the world. Inditex has over 7000 stores now. What also sets them apart is that, since everything is done in-house. Zara can design a product and get them into stores in less 2 weeks compare to 6 month which is industry average. Ortega followed just in time production strategy. That means they made their supply chain so effective that they could supply their stores in less than 48 hours. Which means, they don't need to order more than they need and if something is selling too good. They know that they can have it back on the shelves in 48 hours. That provided Zara with absolutely unique advantage. This incredible success story started with a 13-year-old kid who simply had a dream and didn't have any formal education. It seems like nothing is impossible as long as you are patient, dedicated and hard working. But in today’s world with the rise of the internet, the first thing you have to do when you start a project is to register your domain. Imagine starting your business but then finding out that your domain is already taken. That's exactly why you need Hover because registering a domain through Hover is much easier than you think. Omnichannel Retailing | The Digital Store of the Future | Cognizant

03:48
http://www.cognizant.com/retail Today’s consumers want to seamlessly shop whenever and wherever they are. In order to meet these demands, retailers must bring the physical and digital shopping worlds into one omnichannel experience. Cognizant helps retailers turn these possibilities into new business opportunities. While online shopping has become a defining activity of the 21st century, 95% of all sales are the result of a combination of online, mobile, and in-store interactions. Unifying these provides a more seamless experience for the shopper and more sales opportunities for businesses. For example, mobile alerts inform nearby shoppers of new products and promotions in order to capture their attention while RFID tags and QR codes on product tags help them learn about item details and read reviews. Arming store associates with data about a shopper and product information helps them to provide a more personalized experience to the consumer. Using social interactions as a visual focal point in a store can help positively influence shoppers. Virtual dressing rooms allow shoppers to virtually try on outfits in-store or at home. Pregnant Kate to cause baby boom in UK and retailer is already planning for sales rise

08:07
Pregnant Kate to cause baby boom in UK - and retailer is already planning for sales rise. KENSINGTON Palace’s announcement Kate, Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant will spark a baby boom across the UK, according to retailers. Supermarket giant Asda is expecting an increase in the sales of flowers, chocolate and romantic gifts as suitors prepare to woo their partners. And they are already planning for a higher demand of baby goods in July, when the Royal baby is due. They are modelling plans on what they see as a celebrity-led baby boom in September which has been matched by a dash for the checkouts in ASDA.Sales of prams, toys and baby monitors have rocketed 125 per cent in the first week of September. We’re delighted by the news the Duke and Duchess are expecting their third child Tennis legend Serena Williams gave birth over the weekend, while reality TV stars Fearne McCann and Sam Faiers are also expecting new arrivals soon. An ASDA spokesperson said: "We’re delighted by the news the Duke and Duchess are expecting their third child. “Since the start of September we’ve seen a big rise in sales of baby items as new parents prepare for arrivals of their own and we can only attribute this to a September baby boom that has swept the nation. Meanwhile betting sites have been flooded with punters placing bets on the new name for the Royal baby, with Alice and Arthur the most common predictions. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to keep it classic when choosing a baby name - as with George and Charlotte. If the baby is a girl, the Cambridges are likely to pick a traditionally royal name such as Alice - which was the name of one of Queen Victoria's daughters and also of the Duke of Edinburgh's mother - or Victoria after the baby's long-reigning ancestor. Elizabeth - after the baby's great-grandmother the Queen - has already been used as one of Charlotte's middle names, as has Diana in remembrance of William's late mother.

If you're guilty of living an Insta Lie or know somebody that is, then this video is most certainly for you. We're partnering up with boohoo.com to call out some of the funniest and most common Insta Lie's posted on social media. Insta Lie (verb): an intentionally false representation of real life on social media. Examples include: 1.) Tagging an edited and made-up selfie with #IWokeUpLikeThis; 2.) Taking a million selfies before deciding on just one to post as #Effortless 😕; 3.) Going all the way to Starbucks, buying a coffee and opening up your Macbook - taking a photo of your #WorkSpace, closing your Macbook and then going back home; 4.) Using filters to edit your travel photos - making them literally look #Unreal. Why to start to with innovation as a fashion retailer?

03:00
Enterprise Europe Network and Chamber of Commerce Netherlands organized an international matchmaking event with a “Smart fashion retail meeting", during the program EU Fashion Match. During this program on the fashion fair “The Modefabriek”, Jan-Henk Bouman from Fountainheads shares his knowledge about the need for innovation in the fashion. He tells that Innovation is very important for retailers in the fashion, because the world is changing very fast in exponential speed. For example Intel has a new 3D printer, which can print a sweater in 45 minutes and tells about humanoids in fashion stores. He quotes: the world will change and everybody can be a designer, and everybody can print designs and share them on Internet. In this video he inspires entrepreneurs why they should start with innovation.
