Deep Sea Creatures [National Geographic Documentary 2017 HD]

53:56
Deep Sea Creatures [National Geographic Documentary 2017 HD] The Deep sea creature refers to organisms that live below the photic zone of the ocean. These creatures must survive in extremely harsh conditions, such as hundreds of bars of pressure, small amounts of oxygen, very little food, no sunlight, and constant, extreme cold. Most creatures have to depend on food floating down from above. These creatures live in very demanding environments, such as the abyssal or hadal zones, which, being thousands of meters below the surface, are almost completely devoid of light. The water is between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius and has low oxygen levels. Due to the depth, the pressure is between 20 and 1,000 bars. Creatures that live hundreds or even thousands of meters deep in the ocean have adapted to the high pressure, lack of light, and other factors. The depths of the ocean are festooned with the most nightmarish creatures imaginable. You might think you’re safe, because these critters live thousands of feet down in a cold dark abyss, but the vampire squid, which looks like a nightmare umbrella, and the frilled shark—a literal living fossil—will live on in the recesses of your mind long after you’ve clicked away. Enjoy these deep sea horrors and try to have a relaxing day afterward. ► NOTE : I'm a big fan of National Geographic and I just collect the best parts of National Geographic. I do not make money from National Geographic's Video. Thanks You very much

Monster Goliath Groupers with NFL Linebacker Sam Barrington - 4K

11:28
In this episode of BlacktipH, Josh is joined once again by NFL star linebacker Sam Barrington from the Green Bay Packers to go fishing for monster goliath groupers off the coast of Florida. We started off the day catching bonito (false albacore) for bait. After catching half a dozen albies for bait, Sam was ready to start goliath grouper fishing. Sam hooked up to his first goliath grouper and immediately got yanked forward. After an intense short fight, Sam Barrington landed his first goliath grouper. The day ended with Sam catching four goliath groupers. Sam's friends Johan and Richard both caught a goliath grouper, adding up a total of six goliath groupers for the day. • Follow Sam on Instagram → http://bit.ly/instagram-sam • Follow Sam on Twitter → http://bit.ly/twitter-sam • Follow Sam on Snapchat → sambarrington ► Ceuticore Nutrition: http://bit.ly/ceuticore ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ABOUT BLACKTIPH ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ BlacktipH Fishing brings you some of the most exciting fishing videos on the web. 10 Creepy Sea Creatures You Didn't Know Existed

04:33
Did you know any of these amazing and scary deep sea creatures? It's hard to believe these bizarre animals exist. Subscribe: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg 'Hatchet Fish' footage by Filmic Art : www.filmicart.com For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: There is a vast world below the ocean that we have yet to discover in its entirety. While we seem to know nearly everything about the land, the sea still leaves much to be desired. As you go down into the depths of the ocean, you’ll notice a lot will change. For one, you’ll begin to be immersed in darkness. Second, the pressure will change. So, the creatures that have been discovered deep in the oceanic depths are quite different biologically, and they can be quite terrifying to look at. But once we begin to understand them, we can start to learn more about our existence, and even come closer to curing diseases and solving some of the world’s most complex mysteries. However, the sea creatures that have been discovered recently have shown to be just downright creepy and terrifying. You probably recall the Angler Fish, especially if you’re seen the Disney movie, “Finding Nemo”. If you didn’t realize that this fish is the real deal, get ready for new additions to your nightmares. It wasn’t a work of fiction or some messed up fantasy of some Disney Imagineer. The fish that we see in this video is actually female, and the male is a small weakling, wandering the sea to find a female with her pheromones. The male then attaches itself to the female and becomes a parasite. Every part of the male merges with the female except for the testicles, which the female uses to impregnate herself. Jokes aside, this is quite a fascinating process despite how creepy it is. Similar to the angler fish is the Viper Fish, which has a natural extra attachment that illuminates in the darkness of the sea with the purpose of attracting prey. The blob fish is a creature that you wonder what God was smoking or shooting up when he decided to create the blob fish. This fish has no bones, and literally just hangs out on the ocean floor and hopes that food comes to its mouth. Whether you want to worship the blob fish for its epic level of laziness or wonder how in the world the species is still in existence with such an apathetic demeanor, it’s still creepy to look at. Then we have the goblin shark, which is pretty much like the underwater version of the alien from the movie “Alien” due to its protruding mouth. The goblin shark has a large snout and needle-like teeth that are sharp and deadly. For a completely random sea creature, we have the Christmas Tree Worms, which really look like tiny walking fir trees that come in different colors. The branches or hair-like appendages help them breathe as well as consume phytoplankton. Then we have the sea pig, which looks nothing like the pigs we have on land. But instead the sea pig is a multi-tubed foot sea creature that is closely related to the sea cucumber. It eats by pulling water and absorbing organic food. Quite innovative, even though it looks creepy. For more creepy sea creatures, check out the rest of the video for more. 10 Biggest Sea Creatures Ever Caught

05:42
You won't believe that fishermen actually caught these gigantic sea monsters! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg SyFy recently aired the third film in their so-bad-its-good “Sharknado” series, prompting some to wonder if airborne, tornado-based sharks could actually be real. Okay, so no one is really wondering that. Still, though, the ocean continues to represent a great unknown to us, providing home to countless species, many of which remain a mystery to humanity. The more we learn about what lurks deep below the surface, the more we realize still remains uncovered. With two-thirds of the Earth’s surface covered in water, it stands to reason that a great deal of that space remains unexplored. Of course, just because humankind hasn’t covered every iota of ground along the ocean floor, it doesn’t mean that those areas are uninhabited. All we know for sure is that the truly deepest depths of the world’s oceans continue to offer surprises, even as scientific technology becomes increasingly advanced. New species unlike any others known before are routinely discovered, with entirely new and alien biomes in extreme environments that no life had even been thought possible have challenged our very notions of what life is and how it has evolved. Amidst the cold darkness of a low-lying ocean area with depths that no sunlight can penetrate lies an alien world of incredibly rare and mysterious species. While many are simple, harmless omnivores, they share the ocean floor with some pretty unsettling forces. These ocean-based creatures – those that we know about, anyway – change everything we think we know about fish. Each one has at least one predominant feature that stands out as being unlike anything seen before. Think you know sharks? Well, how about one with a saw-like nose or a frilly, eel-like body. Think you’ve seen some big fish? How about a 17-metre long swimmer or a 900-pound squid or even a 5,000-pound behemoth sunfish? Lurking within the ocean are a number of deadly, threatening, vicious creatures that are naturally designed and programmed to hunt and stalk their prey. Thankfully, most of these monsters live at pressures that humans could never survive at – not that they would survive long down there, anyway. In recent years, Hollywood has sparked a fascination with zombies, aliens and other forces that exist beyond the realms of our planet and that are not steeped in reality. Despite that, some of the strangest and most terrifying creatures in the universe lie beneath the surface of bodies of water with which we are, at least partially, familiar. As we sit on a beach staring out at the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean, we remain blissfully oblivious to all that lurks within. This list seeks to open the door to an entire world of deep sea activity, featuring a cast of creepy and spooky characters that few even know exist. These 10 fish, some of whom may seem to be borne out of your darkest nightmares, are all very real and may give you second thoughts the next time you foray into the ocean. And these are just the ones we know about… Check out these other awesome videos! 10 Shockingly Large Creatures That Actually Exist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9odlL5Ti3dc 10 Things That Will Happen When Humans Go Extinct https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ml_awEqbEE Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRichest.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRichest_Com Instagram: http://instagram.com/therichest For more videos and articles visit: http://www.therichest.com/

Deep Sea Fish Farming in Geodesic Domes: Upgrade

10:03
In this episode of Upgrade, Motherboard goes to Baja California, Mexico to get a firsthand look at these free floating pods, and to get an understanding for why we need better ways to cultivate our future food sources. Whether it’s found on a plate of sushi, grilled in our backyard, or thrown on pasta, seafood is a staple for many diets around the world, and demand is growing. And as the commercial seafood industry booms, fish stocks worldwide face perilous declines. We’ve surpassed our capacity to sustainably fish wild caught fish, shrimp, and mollusks from the ocean, and so we’ve turned to aquaculture, or fish farming, as a strategy to meet demand for our growing appetites for water-borne critters. The aquaculture industry is growing fast. According to the FAO, per capita production of seafood from aquaculture has increased 6.9 percent annually since 1970. Unfortunately for us and for our Earth, current methods of fish farming often involve crowded, tethered pens, which can have poor water circulation and contribute to the spread of disease, and put large amounts of environmental stress on the surrounding waterways. This is where Steve Page of Ocean Farm Technologies comes in. Taking inspiration from naturally-occurring schools of fish and Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes, Page co-designed the Aquapod, a free floating, untethered deep ocean fish habitat which reduces overcrowding, and creates less stress on surrounding environments due to its unique ability to change location with the ocean's current. Macropinna microstoma: A deep-sea fish with a transparent head and tubular eyes

01:29
MBARI researchers Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler used video taken by unmanned, undersea robots called remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to study barreleye fish in the deep waters just offshore of Central California. At depths of 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 feet) below the surface, the ROV cameras typically showed these fish hanging motionless in the water, their eyes glowing a vivid green in the ROV's bright lights. The ROV video also revealed a previously undescribed feature of these fish--its eyes are surrounded by a transparent, fluid-filled shield that covers the top of the fish's head. This video is narrated by senior scientist Bruce Robison. For more on this story, see MBARI's news release at: http://www.mbari.org/news/news_releases/2009/barreleye/barreleye.html For more cool animal images, see MBARI's feature images galleries: http://www.mbari.org/news/feature-image/feature-image-gallery-2.html

Living on the Ocean Floor - footage recorded by Vincent Zintzen, Te Papa Fish Team, Natural Environment. Film recorded using a baited Lander in various locations and depths around NZ. The video unit lights up the dark world of the deep sea. Food is scarce so the animals that live in the depths are attracted to the bait. The camera reveals the interesting behaviour of these creatures as they strive to survive in their extreme environment The footage of the seal shark attacking the hagfish, and getting a mouthful of slime for his troubles, is a good example of the knowledge gained through this difficult and exacting research. 10 Rare Deep Sea Catches

08:44
From the giant squid found near Antarctica, to the most awesome fish inside a jelly fish ! These are 10 RARE Deep Sea Catches ! Basket Star -- Was it an alien life form? Nothing so exotic. But a fisherman in Singapore reeled in a catch that caught worldwide attention. The weird, writing octopus-like creature was actually a basket star … a distant relative of the starfish. The fisherman said he thought he had reeled in a bunch of seaweed since it’s so prevalent in the area. Although it looks like the creature has hundred of arms wriggling about, it only has five arms, which are each divided into more dexterous ‘branchlets’. This really was a rare deep sea catch since Basket Stars live so deep under the sea … some 6,000 feet or so … and feed mostly on zooplankton. A Controversial Catch -- A Tiger shark measuring nearly 20 feet long was caught off the Australian coast in 2015. Tiger sharks normally grow to lengths between 10 to 14 feet, and are found worldwide in tropical and temperate waters. The apex predators are known to hunt a variety of animals including sea snakes, turtles, dolphins and whales. When photos of the enormous carcass lying on a fishing boat were posted on Facebook, it prompted a social media backlash. Critics compared the display to Cecil the Lion, who was controversially killed by an American big game hunter. What do you think? Ghost Octopus -- A remotely operated submarine called Deep Discover made an amazing discovery when it caught this creature on video: A mysterious, ghostlike octopus sitting on a rock … at a depth of nearly 4,300 meters … or over 14, 000 feet below the surface! The unusual octopus was found during a deep-sea dive in the Hawaiian Archipelago. Researchers said its ghostly appearance is due to the animal’s lack of pigment cell called chromatophores, which most cephalopods possess. While the newly discovered creature is thought to be previously undescribed, researchers have classified it as an incirrate octopod ... meaning it lacks fins and cirri, which are wispy strands found on the arms of some octopuses. Cirrate octopods have fins, and are sometimes called Dumbo octopods … a reference to their resemblance to the Disney cartoon elephant. This small ghost octopus is the first incirrate octopod observed at such an extreme depth. A lot of people think this creature should be named ‘Casper’ … can you think of a better name? Here’s the Catch -- This is kind of like a rare deep sea double catch … A fish is caught inside a jellyfish … and the incident is caught on film! You can see in Tim Samuel’s photograph that the fish seems to realize it’s made a horrible mistake … if it’s any consolation to the fish, the picture will no doubt provide fodder for plenty of internet memes. The incident took place off the coast of Australia's Byron Bay earlier in 2016. The species of the fish and jellyfish are difficult to identify from the picture. But some experts think the jellyfish is a type of stinging jellyfish known as a cubomedusan (koo-boe-med-ooh-san) … and the fish might be a juvenile trevally (treh-valley). Because that fish species is known to evade predators by camouflaging itself among the stingers of certain jellyfish species, it likely intended to get close to the jellyfish … but not actually inside it! Did the jellyfish end up eating the fish … or did the two creatures strike up an unlikely alliance and go on to have some amazing aquatic adventures? As it was decided to let nature run its course … we may never know. Can you think of a happy ending? Gigantic Giant Squid -- A squid the size of a minibus was captured in the area of Antarctica’s isolated Ross Sea. Researchers kept it on ice for some 8 months before thawing it out to discover it’s wasn't just another giant squid … it was a gigantic squid, weighing 770 pounds! Scientists identified the enormous creature’s gender as female, with 8 arms measuring over three feet each, and dual tentacles reaching 7 feet. One of the scientists speculated that animals such as this may have inspired legends like the Kraken, who often battled other huge sea creatures, like whales. Analyzing the huge squid is part of a research project that scientists hope will yield more information about where giant squids figure in the overall marine-based food chain … In addition to identify various squid types and find out more about their dietary patterns and life-cycle. Most Unusual Fish in the Ocean

10:03
The ocean is home to the most bizarre creatures on earth from the fish with a snake's head to one-eyed freaks of nature! 6- Salp Salp or salpa is a barrel-shaped, planktonic tunicate that moves by contracting and then pumping water through its gelatinous body. The system of jet propulsion used by salp is one of the animal kingdoms most efficient. While pumping water through its body the internal feeding filters allow it to feed on phytoplankton. Salp can be found in equatorial water, temperate and even in cold seas. They can be seen on the surface, singly although usually in long, stringy colonies. They are found in their greatest numbers in the Southern Ocean near to Antarctica. In the deep waters of the Southern Ocean they are known to form enormous swarms and are more abundant than krill. A single salp is between 1 and 10 cm tall and a single creature can asexually produce tens of thousands of individuals which will be released from the parent at a small size. They remain attached to each other in the chain, feeding and growing until the food sources becomes too inadequate to sustain the chain. 5- Lancetfish The lancet fish is a large predatory fish also known as a scale-less lizard due to its appearance. They can grow up to 2m in length although little is known about this fish except that it is found in all the world’s oceans except the Polar Regions. They have been recorded as far north as Greenland and are often caught by vessels fishing for tuna. There are two species of lancetfish, the short snouted and the long snouted. Both species have relatively long and pointed snouts. The short snouted lancetfish has a slightly shorter snout than the other species. The main feature of the lancet fish is its high and long dorsal fin. The dorsal fin contains 41 to 44 rays occupying the greater length of the fish’s back. The fin is twice as high as the fish is deep. The mouth is wide with two or three fang like teeth on each jaw with numerous smaller teeth. There are no scales present on this fish and the fins are very fragile. 4- Cornet fish Cornet fish are also known as flutemouth. There are four species that can be found in the tropical and temperate waters of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. They can be found on soft sea floors such as sand flats, sea grasses and coral reefs. They possess an elongated snout that ends with a mouth containing minute teeth. At the other end of their body is the end of the backbone extending to a forked tail fin. The largest cornet fish can grow to up to 2m in length. The blue spotted cornet fish and the red cornet fish are found in the Oceans of the Atlantic and western Pacific as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The reef cornet fish and deepwater cornet fish are primarily found in the eastern Pacific Ocean. 3- Armored Searobin The armored searobin is also known as the armored gurnard and is found in deep waters of the world’s tropical regions. They are related to the family of searobins in the Triglidae family. They are different from searobins in that they are encased in heavy scales that feature prominent spines. They also have prominent barbells on their chins. They have large pectoral fins which when they are swimming open and close like a birds wings in flight. They are able to glide short distances above the surface of the water, similar to that of a flying fish. They prefer to be in deeper water often down to 200m below the surface. They measure about 30 to 40 cm long, with a solid skull. When caught they make a croaking noise similar to a frog. 2- Mystery Fish This unknown fish was found in a fish market in Japan. It has been researched on several sites but remains without a name. So for this final entry into the unusual fish the question is being asked. Do you know what type of fish this is? Let us know in the comment section below! 1- Fish Snake The fish snake is also known as the snakehead and is a freshwater fish native to Africa and Asia. They are an elongated predator with long dorsal fins, large mouths and shiny teeth. The fish snake is also able to breathe air through its gills allowing them to cover short distances across land. The fish snake is a notorious intentionally released invasive species becoming very successful due in part to having no natural predators in those regions it has been introduced into. Adult fish snakes will eat other fish, frogs and occasionally small mammals such as rats. There are around 40 species of fish snake with the smallest being the dwarf snakehead growing to just 25cm or 10 inches. Most species grow to between 30 and 90 cm (12-35 inches). There are 5 species that reach in excess of 1m (3ft 3in).

13 Glowing ALIEN Fish From The Deep Sea

10:04
From Fluorescent Viperfish and Bioluminescent Catsharks to Glowing Anglerfish and Genetically Modified Glofish. These are 13 Glowing Fish. SUBSCRIBE for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR 13 GloFish Let’s start off this video about fish that glow, with GloFish! They are a patented and trademarked brand of genetically engineered fluorescent fish. The first fluorescent zebrafish were created at the National University of Singapore in 1999, by scientists trying to make a fish that would detect pollution by glowing in toxic waters. They combined the zebrafish embryo with genes that encode fluorescent proteins from jellyfish and sea coral. Yorktown Technologies, a company from Austin, Texas, bought the worldwide marketing rights to the fluorescent fish and in 2003, introduced the GloFish in the United States. It is the first and only genetically engineered animal to be publicly available and can only be found in the US. 12 Stoplight Loosejaw At number 12, we have the first naturally glowing fish on our list, the Stoplight Loosejaw. A type of barbeled dragonfish, it lives in the mesopelagic areas of all oceans. The mesopelagic zone is between 200 and 1000 metres below the surface of the water. Sunrays usually stop well before the 1 kilometre mark so creatures living here need to adapt to the darkness. Like our loosejaw, who lurks below the waters looking for zooplankton, with its huge mouth wide open, while using bioluminescence to look for Copepods, its favourite food. It is called a Stoplight Loosejaw because it has two big photophores, one red and one green and they look like the colors on a traffic stoplight. Due to the way light travels and dissipates in deep water, the red photophore allows it to see prey without being detected. They are also called rat-trap fish because of the unusual open structure of their jaws. 8 Cookiecutter Shark Moving on to the Cookiecutter Shark, or the Cigar Shark, an oceanic fish that likes to swim at depth of over 3 kilometres below the water. The name "cookiecutter shark" refers to its feeding habit of gouging round plugs, as if cut out with a cookie cutter, out of larger animals. Marks made by cookiecutter sharks have been found on a wide variety of marine mammals and fishes, as well as on submarines, undersea cables, and even human bodies. But the Cookiecutter Shark also glows in the dark, one of the most glowing of all fish, it’s bioluminescence persists up to 3 hours after being out of water. The photophores are strategically places on its underside to disrupt the light coming from above, confusing predators and hiding it’s real silhouette. 7 Lanternfish This method of camouflaging yourself with light is also used by the the Lantern Fish. A species of small, deep water fish, it is one of the most widely distributed fish. It is estimated that 65% of the oceans biomass are Lanternfish, with 246 species discovered so far. Small fish, they are between 2 and 30 centimetres long, although most of them stay well under 15 centimetres. They are masters of disguise, using their bioluminescence and counterillumination to confuse predators and mask themselves on the bottoms of the oceans. Thy also have gas bladders that confuse other fish that use echolocation or sonars. 2 Viperfish Next we take a closer look at the Viperfish. They are between 30 and 60 centimetres long and live in tropical and temperate waters and swim at great depths, 1500 metres below sea level during the day and down to 4000 metres during the night. They have snake like bodies and long, needle like teeth, and they are really ugly. They are predatory fish and feed on almost anything they gets their teeth into. The Viperfish has 3 types of photophores on its body, used mainly to attract prey. They have microscopic spheres all over their dorsal side, large spheres with pigment, reflector and lens, and finally, large, bell shaped organs grouped together along the dorsal surface. Although it may look like the viperfish is covered in scales, it is in fact covered by a thick, transparent coating of an unknown substance. 1 Anglerfish And at number one, probably the most famous and bizzare glowing fish, the Anglerfish. There are many types of Anglerfish, all over the globe, living at a variety of depths. But what all Anglerfish species have in common are their huge mouths full of razor sharp teeth and the esca, a fleshy growth on their heads, that houses light producing bacteria, and acts like bait for their prey, luring them straight into the fishs mouth. Anglerfish are a delicacy. Some Anglerfish species are a source of food. In North America, Europe and East-Asia, Goosefish are widely used in cooking and is often compared to a lobster tail in taste and texture. In Asia, especially in Korea and Japan, the liver of the Monkfish is considered a delicacy.

It has prominent ear-like fins making it look like a baby elephant’s head. The Dumbo octopus lives at depths of over 13,000 feet below sea level. They grow to almost 6ft in length and weigh up to 13 pounds. 11 Ocean Sunfish The ocean sunfish is the heaviest bony fish in the world, weighing between 545 and 2,205 pounds. Living on a diet of sea jellies and small fish, which it has to consume in very large quantities because of their poor nutritional value. 10 Humpback Anglerfish The humpback anglerfish, also known as the humpback black devil, lives at depths ranging from 800 to 13,000 feet below the ocean’s surface. They have black soft bodies and large heads, widened mouths and long pointed teeth. Females are capable of eating prey even larger than themselves. 9 Amphipoda Amphipoda is an order of crustaceans that range in size from 0.03 inches to 13.4 inches. Their bodies are laterally compressed and have no carapace. The most interesting thing about amphipods is their feeding behavior. There are more than 9.900 species, and some are flesh-eating scavengers. Amphipods have two front pairs of legs with large claws. 8 Sarcastic Fringehead The sarcastic fringehead is a small fish with a large Predator-like mouth and aggressive territorial behavior. It can only grow up to 12 inches long and lives in the Pacific, off the coast of North America, from San Francisco, California to central Baja California. 7 Pelican eel The Pelican eel, also known as the gulper eel, has a very large mouth which it can open wide enough to swallow bigger fish. Gulper eels live at extreme depths from 1,600 to almost 10,000 ft. 6 Pacific Viperfish The Pacific viperfish lives in the abyssal depths of the deep sea and is easily recognized by its large open mouth. It’s a predatory fish that can reach lengths of 1 foot and it has an iridescent dark silver body. Pacific viperfish cannot close their mouths due to their very large fang-like teeth which they use to trap their prey with. They also have a light or gone located at the end of their dorsal fin rays. 5 Abyssal ghostsharks Pointy-nosed blue chimaeras or more commonly known as abyssal ghostsharks are sea creatures that live in temperate ocean floors down to 6,500 feet deep. They are believed to be some of the oldest fish in existence, as they branched off from sharks nearly 400 million years ago. 4 Stargazer Fish Stargazers are a family of fish that camouflage themselves in the sand on the ocean floor and attack when a fish swims by. Their eyes are mounted on the top of their heads and they have upward facing mouths. Stargazers have two large venomous spines located above their pectoral fins and some species can also cause electric shock. Their way of attacking other fish combined with their ability to cause electric shock and the fact that they also have venomous spines, have caused some to refer to stargazers as “the meanest things in creation”. 3 Immortal Jellyfish The immortal jellyfish is a species of biologically undying jellyfish. It’s found in the Mediterranean Sea and the waters of Japan and has no maximum lifespan. It begins life as a larva and settles down to the sea floor, where it gives rise to a colony of polyps. Each polyp and jellyfish arising from a single larva is a genetically identical clone. The polyps morph into an extensively branched form. Jellyfish then bud off the polyps and continue their life in a free-swimming form. 2 Water Bears Water bears are micro-animals that resemble bears and are believed to be the toughest and most resilient animals on the planet. They can survive incredibly harsh conditions such as exposure to extreme temperatures or pressures, radiation, air deprivation, dehydration and even starvation. They can go without food or water for more than 30 years. Their barrel-shaped bodies usually only grow up to 0.02 inches long and have four pairs of legs, each with four to eight claws. 1 Sea Spiders The sea spider is not really an arachnid, but a marine arthropod. It got the name from its eerie resemblance to a spider. It has eight long legs and a small body. Most species of sea spiders are so small that each of their muscles consists of only one cell. They’re most common in shallow waters where they’re usually found walking along the bottom.
