Check constraint is used to validate data according to business logic, whether it be limiting the value range or allowing some specific string format or data format. This oracle tutorial is about how to add, remove, enable or disable check constraints in oracle 12c. Here are the list of ddl commands for check constraint: ALTER TABLE table_name ADD CONSTRAINT constraint_name CHECK column_name condition [DISABLE]; ALTER TABLE table_name DROP CONSTRAINT constraint_name; ALTER TABLE table_name ENABLE CONSTRAINT constraint_name; ALTER TABLE table_name DISABLE CONSTRAINT constraint_name;

SQL: Check Constraint

05:11
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make use of check constraint. PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Difference Between Delete and Truncate

03:41
Below is link for Useful Pl/SQL Books http://goo.gl/XMy0tt ---------------------------------------------------------- Difference Between Delete and Truncate in Detail On bigger picture they serve the same purpose but there are many Differences listed with examples Point Delete Truncate 1. Data Recovery Delete: Come under the DML Category, we need to commit or Rollback explicitly to make the changes permanent, so we can recover the data by Rollback command fully with in a session or up to a point if Save Points are used Fall In DDL Category (DDL Command issue the Auto commit implicitly) so no chances of Recovery even not using the Flashback table method. But Truncate operations are also logged , they didn’t generate redo SQL but they are logged , view for truncated data info V$LOGMNR_CONTENTS 2. Data Removal Delete Can remove all or selected data using the Where Clause predicates. Or we can say delete any subset of rows We can Truncate complete table or a partition or sub partition of a table. 3. Speed Delete is Slower because oracle maintain the redo logs for Read Consistency (so that every session connected can see a consistent data at a given point of time ) Delete is very time consuming activity especially when table have numerous indexes and Triggers associated with table Faster as no data logs are maintained no associated trigger firing. 4. DML Triggers Firing DML (Delete) triggers associated with table will fire. DML Trigger will not fire in case of truncate method. 5. Flashback Technology Data can be recovered even after commit operation using Flashback Table options Flashback_transaction_query table will give what to recover and up to which point. Data cannot be recovered in truncate method by Flashback table option. 6. Referential Integrity Constraint Behavior if we don’t have related data in child table then we can delete the data from the parent table or we have variants like On Delete Cascade & on Delete set Null. We can’t truncate a table with enable Referential Integrity Constraint, even there is no data in the child table, we have to disable or drop the constraint if we want to truncate the table. Exception: Truncate is possible if the FK is self-referential means primary key and foreign key are on the same table. 7. Space De allocation or Space Utilization No extent reset with delete when deleting rows from a table, extents are not de allocated, So if there were 50 extents in the table before the deletion, there will still be 50 after the deletion. Truncate: When a table is truncated it will free the space allocated except in case of reuse storage clause. This space can subsequently be used only by new data in the table or cluster resulting from insert or update operations .All extents are de allocated leaving only the extents specified when the table was originally created .Example So if the table was originally created with min extents 3, there will be 3 extents remaining when the tables is truncated. When you truncate a table, NEXT is automatically reset to the last extent deleted. 8. High Water Mark Delete will not reset the high water mark Truncate will reset the High Water mark which is very important for performance point of view as in case of full table scan and full index scan oracle will read all the block under high water mark this makes a lot of difference in terms of performance. 9. Cluster No as such restriction with delete. You cannot individually truncate a table that is part of a cluster. You must truncate the cluster, Delete all rows from the table, or drop and re-create the table. 10. Information Capturing Delete : we can capture the row information what we have deleted using Delete Method, f you are deleting multiple records then use composite data types (collections & records) Truncate Don’t have this feature of capturing the deleted records. 11. Function Based Index Impact DELETE You cannot delete rows from a table if a function-based index on the table has become invalid. You must first validate the function-based index. Truncate: No as such restriction 12. UNUSABLE Indexes Delete no as such feature. Truncate if table is not empty then truncate make all unusable indexes to useable. 13. Complex views You cannot delete data from a Complex view except through INSTEAD OF triggers. But we can delete data from simple Views and MV. We cannot truncate a view simple or complex but you can truncate MV with special Features like Preserve MV Logs and Purge MV Logs. 14. Privileges Delete You need to provide delete table privilege on object. Truncate you must have drop table privilege there is no truncate table privilege exists. 15. Domain Index No as such restriction You cannot truncate the object having domain index in invalid or In progress state

Bean Validation: What Does It Look Like in Practice?

57:41
Java EE 7 is a very rich environment. This session takes you on a practical code-driven Bean Validation walk-through: how to use it in your applications and what not to do—all with an example-driven approach. The presentation gradually adds constraints and validations to an existing application and examines many features, both old and new, including constraint declaration, custom constraint, method validation, EL-based message interpolation, JAX-RS integration, and many more. It spends as much time as possible in the IDE. No previous knowledge of Bean Validation is required. Author: Emmanuel Bernard After graduating from Supelec (French "Grande Ecole"), Emmanuel has spent a few years in the retail industry where he started to be involved in the ORM space. He joined the Hibernate team 4 years ago and is now a core developer at JBoss, a division of Red Hat. Emmanuel is the lead developer of Hibernate Annotations and Hibernate EntityManager, two key projects on top of Hibernate core implementing the Java Persistence(tm) specification, as well as Hibernate Search and Validator. Emmanuel is a member of the EJB 3.0 expert group and the JSR 303: Bean Validation expert group. He is a regular speaker at various conferences and JUGs, including JavaOne, JBoss World and JAX. We can also say that SQL tables are kind of data structure which are used by database for efficient storage of data. To create a table in our database we use SQL CREATE TABLE command. SQL CREATE TABLE is a type of DATA DEFINITION LANGUAGE also known as DDL. To Create a table in your schema you will require CREATE TABLE system privilege. In our future videos we will see what are system and object privileges and how to grant them to a user. Today for this video we will be using Sample schema HR which already has all the necessary privileges. Ohk Let's see the syntax. CREATE TABLE table name ( column name1 Data-Type(size), column name2 Data-Type(size), ..... ); CREATE TABLE is an oracle reserved word or say an Oracle key word whereas There are 3 different ways of creating a table in Oracle database. Creating a table using Command Line Interface (CLI) in Oracle database For demonstrating how to create table in oracle database using CLI, I'll be using Command prompt. Thats how we create table using command prompt. you can check your table structure by DESCRIBE command for that just write DESC and your table name. Like this Another way of creating a table is by using Graphic user interface (GUI) in Oracle database To demonstrate how to create table using GUI we will use SQL developer. Lets open our SQL developer I am connected to HR schema if you do not know how to create a connection to database using SQL developer please watch my oracle database tutorial 4 that explains database connectivity using SQL developer and command prompt. Link for this video is in the description below. So lets create a table. Creating a table using SQL developer is very easy we do not have to fire any query here. Let's start First of all right click on your connection in which you want to create a table and choose schema browser. This will open a separate schema browser pane or you can expend your connection by clicking this + sign and then right click on table and choose New Table. However I prefer working with schema browser so let's skip to schema browser pane here from the first drop-down list you can choose connection name and in the second drop down list you can choose what database objects you want to work with we want to create a table thus I'll choose table and then click this arrow here and choose option for new table Ok we have created a table wizard first of all give a unique name to your table and add some column as well. For this, click the green plus button. Now we already have a column so give it some name. Also choose a datatype from the list and specify any size you can check this not null column if in case you want to make this a mandatory column you can also specify default value and constraint If you want to make this column a primary key you can click here In my future video i'll show you what are these constraints and different ways of applying them on a column in a table. for this video we will concentrate on create table only so when you are done with all your columns click ok Thats your table You can double click on your table here and can see its structure. Thats it

Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) Tutorial - Part 1

06:58
Learn how to create an Entity Relationship Diagram in this tutorial. We provide a basic overview of ERDs and then gives step-by-step training on how to make an ER diagram with correct cardinality. Entity Relationship Diagrams are comprised of 3 main categories: entities, attributes, and relationships. Entities are objects or concepts that are associated with important data—like a customer, order, or product. Attributes represent properties or traits of an entity, such as a customer’s phone number or home address. Relationships demonstrate the link between entities. Another main aspect of of ERD's is cardinality, which further defines the relationship between entities in a numerical way. Certain symbols signify the minimum and maximum relationship between different entities. CERIAS Security: A Generalized Temporal Role Based Access Control Model 4/5

09:41
Clip 4/5 Speaker: James Joshi · Pittsburgh University A key issue in computer system security is to protect information against unauthorized access. Emerging workflow-based applications in healthcare, manufacturing, the financial sector, and e-commerce inherently have complex, time-based access control requirements. To address the diverse security needs of these applications, a Role Based Access Control (RBAC) approach can be used as a viable alternative to traditional discretionary and mandatory access control approaches. The key features of RBAC include policy neutrality, support for least privilege, and efficient access control management. However, existing RBAC approaches do not address the growing need for supporting time-based access control requirements for these applications. In this talk, I will present a Generalized Temporal Role Based Access Control (GTRBAC) model that combines the key features of the RBAC model with a powerful temporal framework. The proposed GTRBAC model allows specification of a comprehensive set of time-based access control policies, including temporal constraints on role enabling, user-role and role-permission assignments, and role activations. The model provides an event-based mechanism for providing context based access control, as well as expressing dynamic access control policies, which are crucial for developing secure workflow-based enterprise applications. I will discuss various design guidelines for managing complexity of policy specification as well as an XML-based GTRBAC policy specification language. Dave Cahill & Sanjay Mirchandani, Part 2 - EMC World 2012 - theCUBE - #EMCWorld

08:03
David Cahill, Director of Strategic Alliances for Solidfire made an appearance on theCube at EMCWorld 2012. Solidfire is a revolutionary player in the cloud architecture realm. As the only all-flash array product that is focused exclusively to the cloud service provider market, the Boulder, Colorado based company is on a trajectory to full general availability to that market and beyond. Dave Cahill's interview video on theCube can be seen on SiliconAngle.tv (full clip below). It is interestingly noted that EMC's recent 430 million dollar acquisition of Xtrem I/O, serves as a validation of Solidfire's technology and provides great reference to integration of scalability that is going on in the market. The push for next-gen solutions in EMC's portfolio indicates that rather than throwing high IOPS devices around, the focus is coming around to architecting for scale. With this new set of design constraints in relation to scale in hand, it was clear EMC saw that retrofitting existing architecture would be insufficient. What EMC now has the option to integrate and offer is a portfolio of solutions such as VFCache, the upcoming Thunder project flash appliance, Xtrem I/O, and the legacy suite. With segmentation and focus on solutions it is a powerful amalgam of offerings unlike any other. Cahill states that we are at the beginning of this innovation, and flash is a commodity component of this architecture. That is not to say it is not without precautions, because as Cahill state, without the ability to scale, the ability to provide efficiencies, the ability to integrate performance control, or the ability to provide automation, the drive behind the economics required to take this technology beyond the 2 to 3 percent of the market that demands it today is just not there. Those high demand clients that have super high IOPS requirements will always be there, but taking it beyond to a wider base requires cracking the code of economics in efficiency, automation, performance controls, and so forth and that requires great software. Solidfire's existing track is in the early access market where cloud service providers are engaged at this phase. As Solidfire's products integrate into these provider offerings, it enables the transformation of IT as for this segment that is a cornerstone of their business. Their next-gen performance provides the ideal platform to implement new features to differentiate themselves from the pack in any number of ways. In these unique environments, IT is a profit center, not a cost and that classification is a facet of cloud services, where it is survival of the fittest in any case. Quality of services, cost of services, breadth of services -- each if not differentiated from competitors features could mean a cloud service provider is out of business. So with that mandate, the focus is on delivering services to end customers, and not just turning knobs to an end user base, which is what traditional IT is all about. Solidfire's trajectory to the market continues in development and preparation for general availability at the end of the year. Their upwards charge to the market encompasses integrating services and corresponding features as the cloud services market goes beyond just hosting data, but reaches out into breadth of services, hosting applications, and always keeping up with comparison relative to leaders such as Amazon. In order for that to happen, a change in mindset is taking place, and that change includes new architectures and concepts. 08 of 13 - Oracle APEX 5 - List of values (LOV) for a field in a form; display a hidden column

13:22
A new series using APEX 18.1 is now available. https://youtu.be/65LExgaQMHI This is one in a series of videos about creating an application using Oracle APEX 5. In this video we create two lists of values (LOVs) in the Shared Components section of our application. We use each LOV in place of a field in a form. We see how APEX will help us write the SQL for a LOV. The difference between a "display value"and a "return value"is discussed. Finally, we display the primary key field in a form, which APEX hides by default. See the primary key field in a form can be helpful during application development. SQL scripts for this series are available to download at: http://web.nmsu.edu/~jkreie/oracle/DatabaseTopics.html or by request at http://db.kreie.net

Error Output in Data Flow

19:14
This Video Tutorial illustrates how to do Error Logging in Data Flow with Error Ouput Configuration. Most of the Data Flow components has an special output named Error Output. Error Output when we configure it to redirect error rows, would contains; the record that caused error, the Error Column and Error Code. Error Column in most of the cases would return Data LineageID of the column in data flow. the ErrorCode can be used to fetch Error Description. In this video you will learn how to configure Error output to get the record that caused failure in data flow. you will also learn how to translate errorCode to error description with script component and ComponentMetaData object. you will also learn that error description sometimes is not detailed ENOUGH. so you might use other ways of logging like SQL Server Profiler to catch the detailed error message. the Data Flow Discovery component from the link at the end used for this demo: http://dfld.codeplex.com/

Jay Trimble: Open Source Mission Control for the Chrome Browser | Talks at Google

51:16
"Space missions in their many forms, from robotic surrogates that extend our senses farther than they’ve ever been, to crewed missions that extend human presence into the solar system, all depend, to varying degrees, on ground-based mission control. Bounded by the speed of light, mission control interacts with people and spacecraft as a partner in enabling exploration. Pioneered by Chris Kraft and his team at the dawn of the space age, the core concepts of mission control are largely unchanged since we took those first steps on the Moon. New technology, however, presents the possibility to evolve mission control, giving us new capabilities and flexibility in how we plan and execute missions. WARP (Web Applications for Resource Prospector) a new open source toolset for mission visualization, brings mission control to the Chrome Web Browser. WARP design, driven by the Resource Prospector Lunar Mission and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s deep space missions, is a generalized model for space operations, providing distributed situational awareness for mission decisions from anywhere. WARP integrates multiple data sources into a coherent visualization toolset from which users may assemble their own software, breaking down the “old” paradigm of traditional mission control disciplines and applications. This frees us to operate based on mission needs, rather than constraints enforced by software application boundaries. Bio Jay Trimble is a member of the Intelligent Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center. He is the mission operations and ground data system manager for the Resource Prospector Lunar Rover Mission. Prior to this Jay founded and led the User Centered Technology Group, bringing design thinking to space operations software, including open source mission control technologies, the MERBoard Touchscreen for Mars Rover Operations, and Planetary Data System user technologies."
