Paramount Studios tour July 2018

03:49
Paramount Pictures Corporation is an American film studio based in Hollywood, California, that has been a subsidiary of the American media conglomerate Viacom since 1994. Paramount is the fifth oldest surviving film studio in the world, the second oldest in the United States, and the sole member of the "Big Six" film studios still located in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Hollywood. In 1916, film producer Adolph Zukor put 22 actors and actresses under contract and honored each with a star on the logo. These fortunate few would become the first "movie stars." In 2014, Paramount Pictures became the first major Hollywood studio to distribute all of its films in digital form only. The company's headquarters and studios are located at 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, California, United States. How many stars surround it? Why are they there? Or what's with the Walt Disney´s castle? Why is the boy fishing on the Dreamworks' logo? Are you intrigued already? 5 Stories Behind Famous Hollywood Studios Logos!

04:23
5 Stories Behind Famous Logos from Hollywood/ Movie Studios! Description: If you are a fan of films, then you must have seen some logos that have left you wondering, ‘What’s the story behind that?’ Let me refresh your memory: the boy on the moon in the DreamWorks logo, the mountain in the Paramount logo and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lion. You’re wondering comes to an end today. At Top 5’s finest, we delve into these 5 Stories Behind Famous Hollywood Studio Logos! Ready? Well, lets begin! 1. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer: Leo The Lion Leo the lion on MGM has come a long way to be who we know him today. He was designed in 1924 for Samuel Goldwyn’s Picture Corporation in 1924. When Goldwyn merged with Metro Pictures Corporation and Louis B. Mayer pictures, the newly formed MGM retained the logo. The first Lion, Slats, graced the opening of MGM’s silent films in 1924 to 1958. Jackie was the next MGM lion and his growl-roar-growl sequence as played over the phonograph could be heard by the audience. He was also the first lion to appear in Technicolor in 1932. Tanner was the next lion, and was probably the most famous lion of MGM. And that... is all she wrote. 2. DreamWorks: Boy on the Moon Let’s start with what that SKG at the bottom of the DreamWorks logo means. In 1994, Steven Spielberg, Disney Studio chairman, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and record producer, David Geffen, got together to find a new studio called DreamWorks. There was a lot of push and pull between the three before the logo currently used was settled on. Spielberg wanted the logo for DreamWorks to be reminiscent of Hollywood’s golden age. The logo was to be a computer-generated image of a man in the moon fishing. Dennis Muren, the Visual Effects Supervisor of Industrial Light and Magic who had worked with Spielberg on many of his films suggested a hand-painted logo. Robert Hunt, which is Muren’s friend would paint the logo. Hunt then sent an alternative version of the logo that showed a boy on a crescent moon fishing. And that is now the logo that you see in all Dreamworks films. 3. 20th Century Fox: The Searchlight Logo The 20th Century Fox Film Corporation came about in 1935 when Twentieth Century Pictures and Fox Film company merged. Landscape artist, Emil Kosa Jr., is credited with creating the original twentieth century pictures. If you are wondering who Kosa was, he was famous for his matte painting for the statue of Liberty that is showed at the end of the 1968 movie, Planet of the Ape and many other films. After the merger, Kosa replaced ‘Pictures Inc.’ with Fox to make the current logo. Neat huh? 4. Paramount: The Majestic Mountain The Paramount Majestic Mountains logo was first drawn as a doodle by W.W. Hodkinson during a meeting with Adolph Zukor, who was one of the founders of Famous Players FAILM Company that eventually became paramount. It was based on the Ben Lomond Mountain from his childhood in Utah. The first logo was used in 1914 and it is now the oldest surviving logo in Hollywood. The original logo has 24 stars which symbolized paramount’s then 25 contracted movies stars. It’s now 22 stars. It beats me why those stars were reduced though.... Im guessing that it’s a tough business out there. 5. Warner Bros.: The WB Shield Warner Bros. has had quite some history. And yes, it is legally Bros. not brothers. It went through 11 logos for it to settle on the one currently in use. The company was started by four Jewish brothers who emigrated from Poland: Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack Warner. At the start, Warner Bros. had trouble attracting top talent. In 1925, after Sam’s urging, Warner Bros. made the first feature-length “talking pictures”. Harry famously said, “Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?” and that got the ball rolling for the studio to make Warner Bro’s famous. Here I am on the Paramount Studios tour in Hollywood, California a few years ago. Paramount pictures is the only major Hollywood movie studio that is still actually located in Hollywood. Most, like Warner Bros., has moved elsewhere like Burbank and other parts of the valley. In the clip you will see the world famous and very ornate Bronson gate facing Melrose avenue, the giant sky backdrop used in the movie "Star Trek The Voyage Home", the world famous Paramount water tower, the Paramount fire station, the bench from "Forest Gump", and the set for the now defunct news magazine show "Hard Copy".

Steven Spielberg Gives A Tour of Universal Studios - Behind The Scenes of Movie Magic

10:07
Filmmaker Steven Spielberg gives a tour of the world-famous Universal Studios (Hollywood) lot in Universal City (Los Angeles), California 91608. Steven Spielberg is gonna need a boat. Not a bigger boat. Same-sized boat, preferably. Actually, the closer they can replicate the Orca fishing vessel from Jaws, the better. We are sitting in a golf cart beside the lagoon at Universal Studios in Hollywood (Universal City), where — ever since 1976, the year after Jaws debuted — a mechanical great white has breached these depths to menace tourists on the famed tram (Studio) tour. (It works better than the prop shark on the movie ever did.) This faux harbor, located just up the hill from Spielberg’s hacienda-style Amblin Entertainment offices, was once the mooring spot of the actual Orca fishing boat that was used in the movie. Until, one day, it wasn’t. “I used to come out for a couple of years after I made the movie to get over my PTSD,” Spielberg says, gesturing across the water. “I would work through my own trauma because it was traumatic. I would just sit in that boat alone for hours, just working through, and I would shake. My hands would shake.” A psychiatrist might call this “exposure therapy” — confronting the thing that scares you. In Spielberg’s case: an out-of-control, over-budget, possibly career-ending nightmare production that nearly ruined him as a 27-year-old director just as he was getting started. The troubles on that movie drove him, fueled him, made him tougher as he went on to make Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln, and countless others, including the new family fable The BFG. Forcing himself to sit on the Jaws boat in the middle of a fake lake on a dusty hillside in Los Angeles was how Spielberg reminded himself that whatever went wrong, he could handle it. He could fix it. He could make things work. “Then I was fine,” he says. Time passed. “I hadn’t seen the boat in five years and decided to just come back and revisit it. And it was gone.” He shakes his head and throws up his hands. “They said there was dry rot, there were termites. Of course, there were termites and dry rot! It was an old boat!” All that remains of the Orca now are the wheel, one propeller, and the flag. “I’m going to actually ask them to rebuild it and put it back here,” Spielberg says. “Because the tourists would love to see the Orca here.” So would he. The aches and pains of the Jaws shoot are exactly what Spielberg wants to face again, kind of like Robert Shaw’s Quint and Richard Dreyfuss’ Hooper showing off their healed-over scars. Spielberg has made movies at studios all over Hollywood, but Universal has always been his home base. Not only is it the location of Amblin, it’s also where a baby-faced, teenage Steve Spielberg sneaked through the gates over the course of one long summer in the early 1960s, hoping to learn everything he could about moviemaking. The BFG is Spielberg’s first movie released under the Walt Disney Studios banner, but its story of a little orphan girl and her adventures with a big friendly giant (played by Bridge of Spies Oscar-winner Mark Rylance) seemed like a good opportunity to revisit Spielberg’s own original stomping grounds. While we’re gazing across the water, a tram rolls by and the 69-year-old transforms from legendary director…to theme-park attraction. Spielberg grins and waves as the tourists try to get over their surprise in time to snap a few pictures." Tour of Paramount Studios

19:32
Do you like movies? This is a video of a tour I took of the historic Paramount Studios in July 2010. It included images of the studio backlot, which is designed to look like a city such as New York, Chicago, Boston or anywhere in the world. Many famous actors and actresses (as well as directors) have walked along the lots of Paramount and several well-known movies and television shows have been made here. This video shows some of those places and includes narration as well as some clips.
