Sea of Stars - Vaadhoo Island, Maldives

02:41
As night falls on certain beaches around the world, the waves glow with an eerie blue light, neon dots that make it look as though stars are washing up on shore. What you’re seeing is actually millions of microscopic organisms called bioluminescent phytoplankton. Some of the most spectacular photographs have been captured from one location, Vaadhoo island, Maldives, which has been nick named the sea of stars. The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. Thanks for watching. ____________________________________________________________________ ► Wonder World Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wonderworld.ytc.10 ► Wonder World Twitter - https://twitter.com/WonderWorld_YTC For business enquiries, content submission or copyright concerns or disputes, please contact us me

Bio-luminescent plankton are highly unpredictable in the Maldives. There is no time through the year that you can guarantee seeing it. And don’t believe anyone that tells you otherwise. So let’s go into the complex science behind the concept for a little while. They excrete a chemical blob onto the environment that they currently are in (usually in the water). It is a survival tactic so that the predators will target their attention to the glowing flicker of light. Which is why they usually glow when threatened. Hence the post movement glow. Meaning, if you move your hands across the field of plankton it will glow in an instant and slowly fade out, and this also occurs not only in the Maldives, but the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Jamica. There are some people giving out different months of high possibility between mid-summer and autumn.[ August - November ] توهج شواطئ جزيرة فادهو بالملديف بسبب تزايد الأعشاب البحرية أو العوالق النباتية على هذه الشواطئ تسمى ب:فايتوبلانكتون تنتشر قبالة الشاطئ وعلى رماله، ويعتقد العلماء أنها تتوهج بهذه الطريقة العجيبة لتخيف أعداءها ▁ ▂ ▃ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▃ ▂ ▁ Thank for watching! Море Звезд. Светящийся пляж. Волшебное место. (Красиво №1)

11:27

Starfish Walking on the Beach

01:27
Shortcut to get back to this video: WalkingStarfish.com It was early evening, probably around 6pm or so at low tide. We noticed there were starfish walking around on the sand near the water. Some were in tide pools but some were just strolling on the sand, very very very slowly. The ones that were on the sand we carefully relocated back to the ocean or a tide pool. Other people coming out to the beach were fascinated by the large amount of starfish and helped relocate the walkers to the water as well. This was shot on the Outer Banks of North Carolina (specifically Corolla, NC) in early October 2012. Almost the exact same spot on the beach that a WWII mine washed up in late September 2017 (https://outerbanksvoice.com/2017/09/25/unexploded-mines-wash-up-on-hatteras-and-corolla-beaches/) Also, to clear up the questions about the "foot" in the video. It's my son's foot and he was squatting down. He was 4 at the time of the video. Looks like a strange deformed thing but it's just a normal 4 year old's foot. If you enjoyed this video please take a moment to visit Buffalo Monkey on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/buffalomonkeyconservation/) a conservation focused page that initially introduced this video to the world by posting to Facebook (with my full permission of course). And if you're in a giving mood, please consider Buffalo Monkey's recommended organization: http://www.gorillas.org/ For proof that this is indeed my video, the original upload of it in 2012 (with horrid static in the audio) is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV5H1qNwFKo Do not re-use this video content in any way without explicit permission. A Maldives Beach Awash in Bioluminescent Phytoplankton Looks Like an Ocean of Stars

01:31
A Maldives Beach Awash in Bioluminescent Phytoplankton Looks Like an Ocean of Stars Certain creatures both on land and sea can produce light through chemical reactions taking place within their bodies known as Bioluminescence. The bioluminescence results from a light-producing chemical reaction also called chemiluminescence. Certain types of chemicals when mixed together produce energy which ‘excites’ other particles on vibration and generate light which causes the glow. The group of chemicals involved to make plankton glow are broadly termed luciferins and the light is produced by a series of oxidation reactions set off by a catalyst called luciferase. The bioluminescence in plankton is very high in several forms of Plankton and is a form of cold light or luminescence. Plankton consists of any drifting organism (plant or animal) that inhabit the oceans and provide a vital source of food to larger aquatic organisms such as fish. A vast range of plankton, both zoo plankton and single-celled animal plankton are known to be bioluminescent. Bioluminescent phytoplankton occur in all the world’s oceans. The most common of these are Dinoflagellates which are tiny unicellular Bioluminescent Planktonmarine plankton also known as fire plants. Dinoflagellates are the most common source of bioluminescence in our oceans and the chances are the sparks – not quite as bright as those made by high performance spark plugs for your car, but still bright – flying off your oar, the bow or wake of your boat are billions of tiny dinoflagellates or copeopods. These creatures get their name by their ability to swim by two flagella, which are movable protein strands attached to their bodies. Bioluminescence is used to evade predators and acts as a defense mechanism in dinoflagellates. Dinoflagelletes produce light when disturbed and will give a light flash lasting a fraction of a second. The flash is meant to attract a predator to the creature disturbing or trying to consume the dinoflagellate. The light flash also surprises the predator causing it to worry about other predators attacking it, making the predator less likely to prey on the dinoflagellate. However the experience of swimming in the midst of these amazing creatures is something that must be witnessed at least once by every scuba diver or avid snorkeler. Several Dive Operators offer special bioluminescent phytoplankton dives or snorkeling expeditions, in seasons when plankton is at its peak brought by ocean currents. These swims would usually be in absolute darkness to witness the both the starry skies above and the starry seas below. ocean of stars maldives and Ocean of Stars and maldives plankton and bioluminescence maldives and phytoplankton in the ocean and maldives bioluminescence and maldives bioluminescent beach and pyrrophyta and phytoplankton maldives and glowing beach maldives and maldives ocean and bioluminescent maldives and phytoplankton beach and bioluminescent ocean and bioluminescent beach maldives and bio illumination ocean and maldives phytoplankton and bioluminescence ocean and maldives plankton beach #MaldivesBeach#OceanofStars#BioluminescentPhytoplankton

Vaadhoo island is famous for the 'sea of stars.' This marine bioluminescence is generated by phytoplankton known as dinoflagellates. Woodland Hastings of Harvard University has for the first time identified a special channel in the dinoflagellate cell membrane that responds to electrical signals—offering a potential mechanism for how the algae create their unique illumination. Sea to Stars - Cycling Waikoloa Beach to Mauna Kea Summit on 4205m by bike, hardest climb ever

Took the challenge during Ironman Hawaii week to cycle one of the toughest climbs in the world from the ocean to the top of Mauna Kea over 4200m of elevation and up to 20% steep with a killer gravel section, by far the hardest ride I did, had to change to 30mm CX tires on my BMC Roadmachine for the 8km lava sand and gravel section before the top but managed without a single meter walking. Spectacular views but only recommended with support car. Had no energy left to go down

If you have never experienced bioluminescent plankton--you have to. It is just unreal..an experience that looks like a page out of a fantasy book. Look at the water and it's glowing...bioluminescent plankton was EVERYWHERE. Along the beach and the sand would light up wherever you are, the water was glowing crazy... There weren't a few, the place was packed with them. It is something special...just...unbelievable.? Vaadhoo is one of the inhabited islands of Raa Atoll, Maldives. Vaadhoo island is famous for the 'sea of stars.' This marine bioluminescence is generated by phytoplankton known as dinoflagellates. Starfish facts: 11 facts about Sea Stars

03:34
Here are 11 facts about starfish or sea stars as they are now called to help gain a better understanding about them. All images used courtesy of wikipedia All videos used under creative commons license. Starfish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ll74xmyIlk Pink Starfish Rescue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNj_Ktf_sEI Synopsis 11. The Sea Star is the alternative name for a starfish as it is not a fish but an echinoderm and it is related to sand dollars or sea urchins. 10. Around the oceans of the world there are around 2000 species of sea star living in all kinds of climates, from warm to cold waters. 9. The five armed species of sea star are the most common, but there are species that have many more arms. In fact, there are some that have up to 40 arms. 8. Sea stars have calcified and bony skin which gives them protection from predators. Different species have different colourings including many species that have striking colours so as to warn off predators. 7. They are strictly saltwater creatures and do not survive in freshwater. 6. Sea stars have the ability to regenerate their limbs and in some cases can regenerate their entire bodies. They can do this as they have most if not all of their vital organs in their arms. However, this does not happen quickly and it will take about a year for a limb to grow back. 5. Some species of sea stars need to have their main body in tact in order to regenerate their arms. 4. However their are some species that need just some of their severed limbs to be intact in order to grow a whole new body. 3. The majority of sea stars have the amazing ability to eat their prey outside of their bodies. They use small suction cupped tubed feet to open up the oysters and clams that they eat and their stomach then emerges from their mouths and their arms prise open the shell just enough and their stomach then enters it and digests it. Then the stomach then returns to the body. So basically they eat inside out, and this allows them to eat larger prey than they would normally be able to fit into their mouths. 2. Sea stars do not have blood in their bodies. Instead, they have a water vascular system where they pump sea water through its sift plate or majoporite into their tube feet. Their tube feet are full of sea water and give strength to them. They then use their tube feet to move and to hold their prey. 1. They have an anae spot and the end of each of their arms which is a very simple eye that looks like a red spot. The eye can sense dark and light but not a lot of detail.

'THE SEA OF STARS' ON VAADHOO ISLAND (MALDIVES)

02:50
Vaadhoo island is famous for the 'sea of stars.' This marine bioluminescence is generated by phytoplankton known as dinoflagellates. Woodland Hastings of Harvard University has for the first time identified a special channel in the dinoflagellate cell membrane that responds to electrical signals—offering a potential mechanism for how the algae create their unique illumination.

Starfish Story (aka The Star Thrower)

01:11
This video is a modern adaptation of the “Starfish Story” originally written by Loren Eiseley in 1969. It’s a story about how important making a difference in people's lives, even if it is just one. It's a great video to encourage teachers, fostering families, and adoption parents. Below is the script for the video: "One day a man was walking along the beach, when he noticed a boy picking up starfish and throwing them into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “Excuse me, but what are you doing?" The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The sun is rising and tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” The man laughed to himself and said, “But there's too many starfish on this beach. You can’t possibly make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean. Then, turning to the man, he said, " 'I made a difference to that one.' " ............................................................................................................... This was a project I was honored to partner with Corona Life Services, which is a non-profit that devotes their efforts to supporting and educating mothers who don’t know what to do after they found they’re pregnant. They told me about the “Starfish Story” and I loved it immediately. I looked it up online to see if there were any videos on YouTube or Vimeo already made, but surprisingly there weren’t any decent videos other than PowerPoint slides with text and cheesy music. The story needed to be portrayed properly, so I adapted the story to fit today’s audience and had a vision of how the video would turn out. After making a shot list, I coordinated with some dear friends to join me on a super early morning shoot at Laguna Beach at 6am. The reason is because I didn’t want to see any other people on the beach other than these two characters. Plus the lighting was soft and exactly what I wanted since the sun hadn’t risen yet. It was a really simple shoot. I didn’t want to be too artsy with my shots because it was a simple story with a powerful lesson at end. I didn’t want to take away from what Loren Eiseley intended for his story. I filmed on my Canon 6D with the Canon 24-105mm lens attached with the Tiffen ND variable filter. All natural lighting too. After filming, I ingested the media on my MacBook Pro 15” Retina and transcoded the video files to ProRes 422 because it’s simply easier to work with. My NLE of choice was Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 because I knew I would be sending certain clips to After Effects via dynamic link. After I locked down the first assembly, I recorded the voice overs using my wife’s voice in my closet. That’s right, my closet. I don’t have a professional recording studio, so I set up my Rode VideoMic Pro next to some thick clothing to help absorb any sound bouncing around. I also added a pop filter in front of the mic to reduce any pops or sibilance from her voice. After recording, I put some EQ and compression on the audio file using Adobe Audition CS6, then sent it straight to Premiere Pro for my second assembly. After some tweaking and color grading, I finished the project with 24 hours of work. I really loved working on this project because it’s a reminder that people matter. Even if you can’t make a difference to the masses, making a difference to one’s life is changing the world nonetheless. People Matter. I hope you enjoy! ...............................................................................................................
