Arizona man, 110 years-old, credits long life and health to 5 foods
MESA, Arizona - Good old father's advice and simple foods are credited with helping a Valley man reach a milestone birthday. "Eat properly and get your rest," recommends Bernando LaPallo. Words to live by considering the Mesa resident was born in Brazil in 1901 and has lived to be 110 years old. "They had no automobiles, no airplanes I saw them all come about," remembered LaPallo. LaPallo claims he's never been sick a day in his life. He walks every morning and eats mostly organic fruits and veggies. "People ask me what do you do to stay so young," LaPallo explained. "I say, 'Well you've heard the old saying, you are what you eat.'" So what's LaPallo's secret? Five foods: garlic, honey, cinnamon, chocolate and olive oil. "Use olive oil on your skin," LaPallo said. "Rub your feet rub your arms you'll never rust." Healthy habits LaPallo picked up from his father, a doctor, who lived to be 98. A father who showed his son how to have a rich life worth living. "And he taught me how to live, how to eat and to have faith in God and he would take care of me," smiled LaPallo. "And so far it has happened."

I hack it! Out of many things Okinawan eat and do. It's seaweed and kelp that gives them their longevity. For people that achieve and internalize long life, they really can't teach other people how they did it. It's just their second nature. It's the outsider's advantage able to see the how to! Beside eating low calories and lots of physical activity, any high school kid also know that, what really stand out from the rest of the world is Japanese's obsession and unique eating habit of seaweed and kelp. As a vegan, I began to understand the importance and difficulty of getting Vitamin D. As I study and research more into Vitamin D, I learn that Japanese's diet is full of Vitamin D. I was thinking the Okinawan people eat a lot of fish. Actually, they don't. Only 1 to 3 serving per week. What they eat a lot of day and night is "Sea Vegetable"!! And they are the only plants that can make Vitamin D!! Fish get their vitamin D from sea vegetable too. We can say that the Okinawan people are eating Vitamin D diet!! Their younger generation are westernize and eating junk food and die early. Only older generation who preserve their old way of eating get to live long life despite same genetic! So you want to live to be 100? The answers to living a long and happy life may come from Japan which has the longest average life expectancy in the world (83.84 years) and where 2 million people are over the age of 90. Believe it or not, 6 of the top 10 oldest people alive are from Japan including Nabi Tajima of Kagoshima who is 117 years old and the last human alive born in the 19th century! How did so many Japanese get to live so long? What are some of the things Japanese do right? In this episode, John travels to Tottori Prefecture to the area around Mt Daisen where his friend Tomiko-san gives him some advice about how to live a long life and how she's lived to be 106 years old and still working on the farm! Her secret? Tofu. She started to make tofu in the 1950s when doctors said residents had to reduce high blood pressure. She made her own tofu for her family and her diet combined with good habits including staying busy and working hard have strengthened her mind and body. She still walks and writes tanka poetry. I also ask Mr. Seiichi, my 97 year old Japanese neighbor his secret and hear from a Shinto priest about his thoughts and personal experiences with living a very long and happy life in Japan. But the main difference between what your grandmother grew up eating and what you're eating today is the chemicals. The Chemicals That They're Putting In Food Is The Prime Suspect For Why We Keep Getting Fatter And Fatter As A Nation And Now The World. At the grocery store and in the bread aisle and I found this particular kind of bread. I'm not going to tell you the label of it because I don't want to get sued, but basically the name actually has earth in it. So they're trying to imply that it's natural and healthy and it's from the earth. But when you look at the ingredients on the back, the place where they can't just fudge and put anything, there's high fructose corn syrup which is a super sugar that has contributed largely to the obesity epidemic. There's also mono and diglycerides, sodium carbonate, calcium propionate, which are preservative. A frozen dinner has the name healthy in its label and it also has a picture of a man running, I guess it's a like fitness food or something. But when you look closer at the ingredients, it actually says that there's enriched flour, which means a processed food that used to be wheat and also a polysorbate 80. Thank god it's not polysorbate 79, right? Another one called 'smart'. You've got to be smart in order to pronounces the things on the label! A dessert that advertises it's low calorie and fat free and perfect for dieters. Well, there are exactly two ingredients out of 20 that I can recognize, how is this good for you? Next is the salad dressings and a salad is one of the healthiest foods you can eat, right? Well not if you put this dressing on it because this even says that it's light and low calorie, but actually it's full of chemicals like propylene glycol, alginate, potassium sorbate, calcium disodium, EDTA, what is that stuff? Plus, Sulfate, sodium, stearoyl lactylate, mono and diglycerides. This is one product is what you're going to feed your kids and it has corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. It has epoxylated mono and diglycerides, ammonium sulfate. Diet Sodas Used Chemicals That Are Obesity-Genic A lot of people drink diet sodas when they're on a diet because they have zero calories, but these are loaded with chemicals and they've now discovered that these chemicals they used to sweeten the sodas are obesity-genic. Meaning they make you fat. Okay. Let's lookat the ingredients on the Broccoli. I can't find a label anywhere, right? Maybe because it only has one ingredient, it's only broccoli! That makes sense. So the best foods to eat are the foods that have no labels at all. Meaning that there's only one ingredient. These are natural foods. These are the healthiest foods for your body, for your health, and for your life. And while it may be hard to eat only natural foods, just make a habit of reading the ingredients on every food that you eat. Look out for chemicals, be aware of what these chemicals are doing to you, and if possible eliminate them from your diet. You'll see results really fast. Such plans often have weak spots and ill-thought out parts which you haven’t noticed; therefore, the chances are that someone could pick them apart quite easily, leading you to become too disheartened to even try to overcome them. 6. Don’t deliberately share information about any good or generous deeds or charitable work that you’ve done. The greatest virtue lies in doing something good without hope of recognition. Boasting about such things can quickly lead to arrogance. If you feel the need to, perhaps you should evaluate why it is that you’re really doing these things — is out of altruism, or the desire to be praised? 5. Never reveal the secrets of your lifestyle. It’s not worth bragging about how you’ve gone on a diet, or overcome your habit of sleeping too much in the morning, or stopped indulging your appetite for sex. If you’ve given up on worldly pleasures for the sake of spiritual goals, then it makes no sense to talk about this — your emotional condition needs to be harmonious, and such a desire to impress others and receive praise is a sign that it is not. 4. Another thing it is always worth keeping silent about are those moments when you’ve shown courage or heroism. We all come up against various challenges every day — both in the external world and on the inside, in our own minds. Your achievements in dealing with both, should they become known, will be rewarded appropriately. It’s not for you to decide whether they are worthy of recognition — therein lies the lesson. 3. Never share your thoughts on what you consider to be your enlightened knowledge of the universe and on questions of life and death. It’s only your interpretation, rather than objective truth, and the chances are you will only seem condescending to others when you try to convince them that they’re mistaken. Only in very rare cases will someone benefit from your thoughts on this subject. 2. It’s never worth revealing any conflicts or problems in your family life to others. Always bear in mind: the less you divulge such secrets about your family to others, the stronger it will be. Olive said "We believe a healthy diet should include plenty of raw fruits and vegetables. In some cases a raw food diet can be used to fight cancer or other diseases, but we believe it's good to have a mixture of raw foods and cooked foods for a normal diet. Beans, garbanzos, brown rice, soy milk, and whole wheat bread are all nourishing. Green vegetables, steamed or lightly cooked are also nourishing and are found to contain protein. She says the first diet that God gave to us was grain, fruit, and nuts. After the sin of Adam, vegetables were added to the diet. And after the flood man was given clean meats. Many believe that in order to gain protein, we need to add meat to the diet but this is not true. Beans and whole wheat bread, taken together, constitute a complete protein. People who eat a vegetarian diet lead healthy lives and live longer".. (My own comment here) Olive never eats a large meal late at night, and most of the fat in her diet comes from a product called Vegenaise. She also informed me she doesn't take medication of any kind, and believes some of them are doing more harm than good. Especially antidepressants which she believes caused some of her elderly friends to commit suicide. As of today Olive is over 105 years old, and while she does have some physical challenges, she is still happy and socially active in her church. She has a sharp mind, loves talking to people, and loves talking about the bible. Warning. If you dare to talk about religion with Olive, you had better plan on staying a while. She has no shortage of words when it comes to her religious beliefs and faith in God..
