Copying Rubens - Making Saturn Devouring his Child with Historical Painting Style

08:16
Using fancy historical paint mediums and cheap brushes creates a good imitation of a Rubens. If I had it to do again, I'd have used more of the coarse brushes and let the amber gel medium sit out and get sticky rather than applying it fresh (to obtain better drag, alike to the original.) Might have also mixed some smalt into the black paint for the background. Music is from Arrigoni's Mandolin Sonata, contemporary to the time of the original painting's being made.

Peter Paul Rubens

09:54
Peter Paul Rubens (June 28, 1577 -- May 30, 1640) was a prolific seventeenth-century Flemish and European painter, and a proponent of an exuberant Baroque style that emphasized movement, color, and sensuality. He is well-known for his Counter-Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. In addition to running a large studio in Antwerp that produced paintings popular with nobility and art collectors throughout Europe, Rubens was a classically-educated humanist scholar, art collector, and diplomat who was knighted by both Philip IV, king of Spain, and Charles I, king of England. Rubens was a prolific artist. His commissioned works were mostly religious subjects, "history" paintings, which included mythological subjects, and hunt scenes. He painted portraits, especially of friends, and self-portraits, and in later life painted several landscapes. Rubens designed tapestries and prints, as well as his own house. He also oversaw the ephemeral decorations of the Joyous Entry into Antwerp by the Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand in 1635. His drawings are mostly extremely forceful but not detailed; he also made great use of oil sketches as preparatory studies. He was one of the last major artists to make consistent use of wooden panels as a support medium, even for very large works, but he used canvas as well, especially when the work needed to be sent a long distance. For altarpieces he sometimes painted on slate to reduce reflection problems. Paintings can be divided into three categories: those painted by Rubens himself, those which he painted in part (mainly hands and faces), and those he only supervised. He had, as was usual at the time, a large workshop with many apprentices and students, some of whom, such as Anthony Van Dyck, became famous in their own right. He also often sub-contracted elements such as animals or still-life in large compositions to specialists such as Frans Snyders, or other artists such as Jacob Jordaens [from Wikipedia] New HD version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5nAqZIKbgU Music by Thomas Newman

Peter Paul Rubens

10:51
Sir Peter Paul Rubens (/ˈruːbənz/; Dutch: [ˈrybə(n)s]; 28 June 1577 – 30 May 1640) was a Flemish artist. He is considered the most influential artist of Flemish Baroque tradition. Rubens' highly charged compositions reference erudite aspects of classical and Christian history. His unique and immensely popular Baroque style emphasized movement, color, and sensuality, which followed the immediate, dramatic artistic style promoted in the Counter-Reformation. Rubens specialized in making altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. In addition to running a large studio in Antwerp that produced paintings popular with nobility and art collectors throughout Europe, Rubens was a classically educated humanist scholar and diplomat who was knighted by both Philip IV of Spain and Charles I of England. Rubens was a prolific artist. The catalogue of his works by Michael Jaffé lists 1,403 pieces, excluding numerous copies made in his workshop. His commissioned works were mostly "history paintings", which included religious and mythological subjects, and hunt scenes. He painted portraits, especially of friends, and self-portraits, and in later life painted several landscapes. Rubens designed tapestries and prints, as well as his own house. He also oversaw the ephemeral decorations of the royal entry into Antwerp by the Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand of Austria in 1635. His drawings are predominantly very forceful and without great detail. He also made great use of oil sketches as preparatory studies. He was one of the last major artists to make consistent use of wooden panels as a support medium, even for very large works, but he used canvas as well, especially when the work needed to be sent a long distance. For altarpieces he sometimes painted on slate to reduce reflection problems. His nudes of various biblical and mythological women are especially well-known. Painted in the Baroque tradition of depicting women as soft-bodied, passive, and highly sexualized beings, his nudes emphasize the concepts of fertility, desire, physical beauty, temptation, and virtue. Skillfully rendered, these paintings of nude women were undoubtedly created to appeal to his largely male audience of patrons. Additionally, Rubens was quite fond of painting full-figured women, giving rise to terms like 'Rubensian' or 'Rubenesque' (sometimes 'Rubensesque'). And while the male gaze features heavily in Rubens's paintings of females generally, he brings multi-layered allegory and symbolism to his portraits. His large-scale cycle representing Marie de Medicis focuses on several classic female archetypes like the virgin, consort, wife, widow, and diplomatic regent. The inclusion of this iconography in his female portraits, along with his art depicting noblewomen of the day, serve to elevate his female portrait sitters to the status and importance of his male portrait sitters. Rubens's depiction of males is equally stylized, replete with meaning, and quite the opposite of his female subjects. His male nudes represent highly athletic and large mythical or biblical men. Unlike his female nudes, most of his male nudes are depicted partially nude, with sashes, armour, or shadows shielding them from being completely unclothed. These men are twisting, reaching, bending, and grasping: all of which portrays his male subjects engaged in a great deal of physical, sometimes aggressive, action. The concepts Rubens artistically represents illustrate the male as powerful, capable, forceful and compelling. The allegorical and symbolic subjects he painted reference the classic masculine tropes of athleticism, high achievement, valour in war, and civil authority. Male archetypes readily found in Rubens's paintings include the hero, husband, father, civic leader, king, and the battle weary. Rubens was a great admirer of Leonardo da Vinci's work. Using an engraving done 50 years after Leonardo started his project on the Battle of Anghiari, Rubens did a masterly drawing of the Battle which is now in the Louvre in Paris. "The idea that an ancient copy of a lost artwork can be as important as the original is familiar to scholars," says Salvatore Settis, archaeologist and art historian. Paintings from Rubens' workshop can be divided into three categories: those he painted by himself, those he painted in part (mainly hands and faces), and those he only supervised as other painters produced them from his drawings or oil sketches. He had, as was usual at the time, a large workshop with many apprentices and students, some of whom, such as Anthony van Dyck, became famous in their own right. He also often sub-contracted elements such as animals or still-life in large compositions to specialists such as Frans Snyders, or other artists such as Jacob Jordaens. Peter Paul Rubens: A collection of 91 sketches (HD)

07:48
Peter Paul Rubens: A collection of 91 sketches (HD) Description: "Pieter Pauwel Rubens, South Netherlandish painter and draughtsman, famous during his life and thereafter. At first Rubens paints mainly biblical and mythological tableaux, while his Antwerp period (1608-1618) is characterized by its abundance of portraits. After Rubens retires to his country estate 't Steen at Elewijt in 1635, he dedicates himself to landscape painting. Between 1600 en 1608 Rubens travels through Spain and Italy, where he is influenced by the likes of Michelangelo and Raphael. Back in Antwerp in 1609 he marries Isabella Brandt. After her death in 1620 Rubens sets out on his travels once again, marrying Hélène Fourment in 1630. Rubens is the embodiment of Flemish baroque. His temperament helps him break with the reigning, rigid style of his day. Characteristic of his work are the many voluptuous nudes, chubby to modern standards. Rubens draws more commissions than he can handle; in his workshop others do much of his work for him. Often Rubens would draw the composition and add the final touch. Rubens dies in 1640." The music needs to be in the correct frequency range for you to see the waves, so anything with frequencies that are too low or high probably aren't going to look special. ► I switch between calling it a Rubens Tube and a Rubens' Tube because I've seen it both ways. It was invented by a guy named Heinrich Rubens, so the second naming style is the possessive, calling it his tube. But I also think the first naming style is fine and makes more sense if you precede it with an article (e.g. A Rubens Tube). If John Smith invented it, I feel like it would make sense to call it a Smith Tube, instead of a Smith's Tube. If you have strong feelings about this, let me know.

Ruben Naranjo Y Los Gambler Power Mix

08:29
Born in Alice, Texas, Ruben Naranjo was known to everyone as basic Conjunto at its soulful best. Ruben's accordion style is elegantly simple, and in many ways tells of his roots and the love of his culture and his people. He began playing the bajo sexto at 15 exclusively until 1962, but his true love for the accordion flourished as he teamed up with Chano Cadena back when many bands had two accordionists. In 1972 he formed his own group, Ruben Naranjo y Los Gamblers and toured with Eligio Escobar. His first recordings were with Zarape Records. In the middle seventies he hit it with, "La Estrella" which opened the way for substantial recordings and an outstanding performing career that peaked in the early eighties. With over 20 albums and numerous singles to his credit, he is among the few Tejano conjunto artists who have been so well accepted in both Mexico and the US.

Rubens' Baroque art celebrated in Antwerp

06:21
(1 Jun 2018) LEADIN A new festival in Belgium is paying homage to the Baroque style of master painter Peter Paul Rubens. In the 1600s Rubens' bold and dramatic approach to art burst into life across hundreds of canvasses. STORYLINE An oversize painting vividly projecting both cruelty and compassion stands tall in the studio room of the Rubens House museum in Antwerp. "The Martyrdom of St. Andrew" by Flemish master Peter Paul Rubens is here on loan from Spain as part of the Baroque festival that begins on 1 June in the Belgian city. "Antwerp Baroque 2018. Rubens Inspires" celebrates the artistic movement and the Flemish master who transformed Antwerp into a Baroque treasure. The festival boasts an ambitious program that is unfolding over the course of six months; it includes exhibits, walking tours of Antwerp's churches as well as museums, concerts, performances and even Baroque-inspired murals.   Organizers say while there have been other Baroque events in Antwerp this is the largest. With its dramatic scene seemingly bursting out of the frame, "The Martyrdom of St. Andrew" is an apt example of the Baroque style that swept through the art and architectural world in the 17th Century. Inspired by theatre, Baroque favoured unfiltered emotions and portrayed characters caught wide-eyed in the heat of the moment: anguished, desperate, elated, yearning. The style blossomed in churches and royal courts in the years of the Counter-Reformation in Europe and Latin America. Baroque was a reaction to the idyllic perfection of Renaissance art of the 1500's; as if a century later humanity had suddenly discovered that life is unpredictable, surprising, painful and sensual. The style developed in Italy thanks to the painter Caravaggio and sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Nele Vervoort is an an expert at Rubens' House Educational Department. She says the festival centres around the figure of Rubens, one of the most important Baroque painters of all times. "The name of the festival is 'Baroque 2018; inspired by Rubens'. So he's the most important person in Antwerp concerning Baroque. After him many artists looked at him and they learned a lot from his work," Vervoort says. Rubens was born in Germany but relocated to his parents' hometown of Antwerp, what was then the Spanish Netherlands. After completing his artistic training, the artist left for Italy where he remained for eight years. In Venice Rubens got up close with the works of Titian and Tintoretto. In Rome, where Baroque was born and in full bloom, he was introduced to Caravaggio's and Annibale Carracci's masterpieces. After his Italian experience, Rubens returned to Antwerp a changed man. His exposure to Baroque's greatest artists proved a pivotal moment in his career and brought a sweeping revision of his painting style. Ben van Beneden, the director of the Rubens House museum, praises Rubens' artistic prowess and unparalleled intensity. "He's so rich, he's so layered, he's so vast that you can actually keep on staring (at) Rubens and every time you find that you discovered something new," van Beneden says. Rubens quickly introduced Baroque to the Flanders; he was an endless source of inspiration for his contemporaries who contributed to change and defined the city's appearance based on the new style.    Churches, cathedrals and homes in Antwerp suddenly filled up with Baroque artworks. Rubens House boasts a large collection of 17th Century Flemish painters. The Baroque festival runs until January 2019. http://www.youtube.com/c/ArtHistoryPhilosophyofLifeChannel?sub_confirmation=1 PETER PAUL RUBENS DOCUMENTARY | PETER PAUL RUBENS DOCUMENTARY A Flemish painter, Peter Paul Rubens'Baroque style emphasized movement, sensuality and color. Although he grew up as a Catholic and painted Counter-Reformation pieces f or the church, he came to be in to a Protestant family. In 1568, his mother and father fled the Spanish Netherlands as a result of persecution of Protestants. Jan Rubens, Peter Paul's father, began a sordid affair with the girl to whom he was court advisor, Anna of Saxony. His father was imprisoned for the affair and couple of years after his death, Peter and his family returned to Antwerp, in the Netherlands, and beginning at age twelve grew up as a Catholic. He started his artistic apprenticeship at age fourteen and completed his education in 1598, when he became an unbiased master painter. During his career, Rubens traveled to Italy and Spain, and was influenced by the truly amazing works of Titian, Veronese, and Tintoretto, in addition to Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo. He returned to Antwerp upon his mother's death in 1608, and remained there as a court painter for the Archduke of Austria, and received special privileges as both a painter and a court diplomat. In 1610, Rubens moved into the home that could become his studio, where he taught students and created nearly all of his paintings. This house has end up being the Rubenshius Museum. His most famous students, friends and collaborators were Frans Snyders, Anthony van Dyck, and Jan Brueghel the Elder. Throughout his life, he was relied upon not just as a master painter, but one whose diplomat talents were required by many a court. Between 1627 and 1630, he traveled between England and Spain, in attempts to make a truce between the 2 nations. He was knighted by both Spanish monarch, Philip V, and the English King, Charles I. Cambridge University also awarded him an honorary Master's Degree. Four years following the death of his first wife, Rubens, who was simply 53 years of age during the time, was married to a 16 year old named Helene Fourment, whom he used as model in lots of his later paintings. His fondness for the entire figured woman has since spurned the word “Rubenesque,” that is still found in Dutch to reference such women. Peter Paul Rubens: 'Venus and Cupid'

00:57
Rubens was the most outstanding of all Flemish painters, and a leading exponent of Baroque art. The Toilet of Venus is one of his copies of an original by Titian—now lost—which belonged to the Spanish royal collections. This provenance is supported by two significant details: the pearl bracelet and the ring on Venus' left little finger, both of which appeared in Titian's painting. An original version close to the one by Titian is now at the National Gallery of Washington, and there is another canvas by Rubens in the Liechtenstein Collection in Vaduz. The Flemish painter's subtlety of execution and superb mastery of colour are the most distinctive features of his style.
