The Valknut is a "Lie"

A video about the term "Valknut" and how it has been misused, applying it to the wrong symbol. A possible name to the symbol in question is a matter of discussion brought to light by our new studies. I hope you enjoy it friends :D --- Aside from the English subtitles, this video also has subtitles in Portuguese, Spanish (American-latin), French and Italian. My thanks to all the contributors. 2 Viking Rune Tattoos & 1 Alchemy Tattoo

01:22
I finished my abdominal tattoo today. My friend Clayton from Wingnut Tattoo (St. Cloud, MN.) did it. The 3 bottom symbols in black on my stomach are new. This was taken right when he finished Hence the redness and swelling... lol. The bottom center Alchemy symbol is known as Antimony or Alchemy Wolf (lupus metallorum). This elemental alchemy symbol represents animal tendencies found in humankind – a wild nature in all of us and is considered a protection symbol. The other 2 symbols are the Elder Futhark runes Eihwaz and Ansuz. *A playlist of videos showing my other tattoos can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL01qaZ66lpIQNIfBFKe3NHtyrCIvJK5Xo *Visit my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/1st508th_airborne/

Valknut

04:32
The valknut (Old Norse valr, "slain warriors" + knut, "knot") is a symbol consisting of three interlocked triangles, and appears on various Germanic objects. A number of theories have been proposed for its significance. The name valknut is an unattested modern invention used to describe the symbol, and was not used contemporarily when the symbol was used. The valknut has been compared to the three-horned symbol found on the 9th century Snoldelev Stone, and may be related to it. This video is targeted to blind users. 2 New Viking Tattoos - Runes & Galdrastafir

01:10
I got some new ink yesterday. The rocker of runes above my stomach is in Younger Futhark runes and says 'WOLF OF ODIN. Younger Futhark runes are the runes used by the Vikings. A common mistake people make is using Elder Futhark in viking tattoos... The Elder Futhark were pre-viking era. The symbol below that is a Galdrastafir - a Icelandic magical stave symbol. This one is called the Ulfsvard (Wolf's Guard). The Ulfsvard gave one allegiance with wolves and protection from them when traversing through their territories. Tattoo was done by my good friend Clayton at Wingnut Tattoo in St. Cloud, MN. I'm getting 2 more Galdrastafir symbols on my ribs on the 23rd... the Ulfshjartr (Wolf's Heart) and the Ulfsmodr (Wolf's Rage). I'll share them also here. How to Draw Viking Patterns 121 - Valknut - Odins Triangle - 3of3

07:36
In this segment, the 2nd style of Valknut or Odin's Triangle is illustrated. Which, instead of being a single line interlace it has three triangles which seem to be linked. Mathematically it is like a Borromean ring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borromean_rings. Many cultures attribute the number 3 with a special meaning. As a triangle it is efficient strength. In nature it is a reflection of the moon, who is full for three day & new for 3 days yet is a different crescent between. It is also a reflection of the solstice sun whose position rises and sets at the same spot on the horizon for three days each winter and summer. To the Vikings and Celts it may be the human spirit in it's three cycles birth, Life and Death. Practice drawing it 100 times and you will memorize it. 9 Everyday Symbols You Didn’t Know The Meaning Of

07:05
We see symbols everyday, like the ichthys fish, democrat donkey and the bluetooth rune, but do you ever spare a thought for their origins? From female and male symbols to the pause symbol, here are 9 Everyday Symbols You Didn’t Know The Meaning Of! Subscribe for more! ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedSubscribe ◄ Stay updated ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedFacebook https://twitter.com/BeAmazedVideos https://instagram.com/BeAmazedVideos◄ For copyright queries or general inquiries please get in touch: [email protected] Featuring... Our everyday lives are saturated with symbols that are designed to express ideas, from the logos of automobile manufacturers to the buttons on your television remotes. Many of us take these symbols for granted, and even though we know what they stand for we rarely have any understanding of their origins or their secret meanings. The Jesus Fish ( its A Bit Racier Than You Might Think) - This iconic fish symbol, often called the Icthys, has often been used as a synonym for the Christian faith and features prominently on everything from billboards to bumper stickers. Female and Male Symbols - Perhaps most popularized by horoscopes and dating services, the symbols for man and woman are two of the most common that we find in our daily lives. But very few people actually know where these symbols come from. In reality, they find their roots in alchemy, an old form of mystical science that was concerned with astrology and chemistry. Bluetooth Runes - That strange little symbol on the side of your Bluetooth devices isn`t just a stylized ‘B’. The inventors of Bluetooth borrowed from Norse mythology in designing their logo which is a bind-rune, or two runes that have been combined. The Pause Symbol In Poetry - You are watching one of your favorite movies and the phone rings, so you reach for the remote to hit Pause. Without realizing it you are in fact exercising one of the oldest linguistic tools in the history of literacy. The Mystery of On/Off and USB - There are a number of symbols related to computers that we have come to accept at face value in terms of their function. One of the most popular of course is the on/off symbol that features a small vertical line inside a circle. Biohazard Symbol as a Tattoo - The biohazard symbol is another one of the most recognizable symbols in our culture, in part because it is meant to warn us of danger. The creators of the symbol however didn’t have any hidden agendas in designing it, and only wanted something that would look distinctive. However, that didn’t stop others from adapting it to their own meanings by putting it on company logos, video games, and clothes. Mitsubishi Family Crest - Ever wondered about the different logos that car companies use? From Toyota to Subaru there is often a lot more to these decals than meets the eye, and the Mitsubishi logo is no exception. Democratic Donkey and Republican Elephant - Anyone familiar with American politics will immediately recognize the symbols used to distinguish the two main parties. On the Democrats side, the image of the donkey can be traced back to the 1828 election in which Andrew Jackson was running for president. Because of his stubborn personality, many of his opponents took to calling him a ‘jackass’. Rolling with the punches, he took the insult and adapted it to become a symbol of being strong willed. Peace Signs and Nuclear Disarmament - The last symbol in our video, and by far one of the most influential is probably the peace sign. Designed by British graphic designer Gerald Holtom in 1958, its original purpose was to protest the use of nuclear weapons. He wanted to use the semaphore alphabet, which is a form of communicating using flags and arm movements, and overlapped the letters N and D in the design to stand for ‘Nuclear Disarmament”. Later, Holtom revealed that he had also been very depressed at this period in his life, and that the peace sign was a stylized stick figure of himself with head down and arms outstretched.

Henna Tattoo - Protection, Irresistible in battle. Happy Diwali.

05:27
The Helm of Awe - done with Henna. Henna Tattoo – Diwali. The “arms” of the Helm appear to be Z-runes. The original name of this rune is unknown, but nowadays it's often called “Algiz.” The meaning of this rune had much to do with protection and prevailing over one's enemies, which makes it a fitting choice for inclusion in a symbol like the Helm of Awe.

The vikings runes

37:45
Runology is the study of the runic alphabets, runic inscriptions, runestones, and their history. Runology forms a specialised branch of Germanic linguistics. The earliest runic inscriptions date from around 150 AD. The characters were generally replaced by the Latin alphabet as the cultures that had used runes underwent Christianisation, by approximately 700 AD in central Europe and 1100 AD in northern Europe. However, the use of runes persisted for specialized purposes in northern Europe. Until the early 20th century, runes were used in rural Sweden for decorative purposes in Dalarna and on Runic calendars.

New Viking Rune Tattoos

00:53
I had some new YOUNGER FUTHARK runes added to my back tattoo today. The 'Younger Futhark' runes are the ones the Vikings wrote with. The new tattoos are in RED runes: Across the top of the Dragon in large Red Runes it says... 'SKINWALKER'. Under the Dragon's neck it says... 'I ANSWER IN A VOICE MADE OF TEETH' Along the Dragon's belly it says... 'TRIBES OF THE MOON'. Along the Dragon's tail it says... 'NIGHTBREED'. I go back in 2 weeks for more work and then again in October. Soon my "Tapestry of Pain" will be complete. :-) My good friend Clayton from Wingnut Tattoo in St. Cloud, MN. did the ink (*and almost all my other tattoos as well). Writing Old Norse in Runes (remake/improved)

52:59
Writing in runes isn't a simple one-to-one conversion of one letter to one rune. This video shows how Old Norse was written using the runes of the Younger Futhark, and then looks at examples of real inscriptions from the Viking Age. Contents of video and translations of runestones: 0:00 Overview 1:57 Vowels 5:59 Ár (ᛅ) and Áss (ᚬ) 10:24 Consonants 11:15 Reið (ᚱ) and Ýr (ᛦ) 17:34 Sö 101. "Áskell placed this stone in memory of Tóki Gormsson, a loyal lord to him, who did not flee at Uppsala. Drengjar (warriors)—the ones who went closest to Tóki Gormsson—placed a stone on a hill in memory of their brother, supported by runes." 37:35 Sö 148. How to Draw Viking Patterns 120 -Valknut - Odin's Triangle - Part 2 of 3

04:09
In this segment Jason Bellchamber shows how to construct the interlace or triquetra version of Odin Triangle. 'Odins's Triangel' is the Swedish spelling. It is commonly called a Valknut. Use a hard pencil, black ink pen and eraser. The interlace is continuous and suggests eternity because the knot is never ending. This 8th century Viking design is likely influenced of the Celtic Triquetra interlace design from the Picts in NE Scotland.

Odin And The Norse Runes | The Runes Norse Mythology Explained

02:25
Odin and the Norse runes, the Norse runes explained, Norse mythology explained. The Norse god Odin is a relentless seeker after knowledge and wisdom, and is willing to sacrifice almost anything for this pursuit. The most outstanding feature of his appearance, his one eye, attests to this; he sacrificed his other eye for more wisdom. The tale of how he discovered the runes is another example of his unquenchable thirst for understanding the mysteries of life, not to mention his unstoppable will. The runes are the written letters that were used by the Norse and other Germanic peoples before the adoption of the Latin alphabet in the later Middle Ages. Unlike the Latin alphabet, which is an essentially utilitarian script, the runes are symbols of some of the most powerful forces in the cosmos. In fact, the word “rune” and its cognates across past and present Germanic languages mean both “letter” and “secret/mystery.” The letters called “runes” allow one to access, interact with, and influence the world-shaping forces they symbolize. At the center of the Norse cosmos stands the great tree Yggdrasil . Yggdrasil’s upper branches cradle Asgard , the home and fortress of the Aesir gods and goddesses, of whom Odin is the chief. Yggdrasil grows out of the Well of Urd , a pool whose fathomless depths hold many of the most powerful forces and beings in the cosmos. Among these beings are the Norns, three sagacious maidens who exert more influence over the course of destiny than any other beings in the cosmos. One of the foremost techniques they use to shape destiny is carving runes into Yggdrasil’s trunk. The symbols then carry these intentions throughout the tree, affecting everything in the Nine Worlds. Odin watched the Norns from his seat in Asgard and envied their powers and their wisdom. And he bent his will toward the task of coming to know the runes. Since the runes’ native home is in the Well of Urd with the Norns, and since the runes do not reveal themselves to any but those who prove themselves worthy of such fearful insights and abilities, Odin hung himself from a branch of Yggdrasil, pierced himself with his spear, and peered downward into the shadowy waters below. He forbade any of the other gods to grant him the slightest aid, not even a sip of water. And he stared downward, and stared downward, and called to the runes. He survived in this state, teetering on the precipice that separates the living from the dead, for no less than nine days and nights. At the end of the ninth night, he at last perceived shapes in the depths: the runes! They had accepted his sacrifice and shown themselves to him, revealing to him not only their forms, but also the secrets that lie within them. Having fixed this knowledge in his formidable memory, Odin ended his ordeal with a scream of exultation. Having been initiated into the mysteries of the runes and equipped with the knowledge of how to wield the runes, he became one of the mightiest and most accomplished beings in the cosmos. He learned chants that enabled him to heal emotional and bodily wounds, to bind his enemies and render their weapons worthless, to free himself from constraints, to put out fires, to expose and banish practitioners of malevolent magic, to protect his friends in battle, to wake the dead, to win and keep a lover, and to perform many other feats like these. The Valknut Pendant - Making of

02:27
▶ Check what Tools I use on Kit: https://kit.com/EpicWorkshop ▶ Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/EpicWorkshop I've made this pendant for my mom's birthday. I've made it from Olive wood which is very widespread here in Istria where I live, hope that you will enjoy and be sure to ask if you have any questions :) Here is some history about Valknut: The Valknut (pronounced “VAL-knoot”) is one of the most widely-discussed yet enigmatic of all of the symbols that appear in connection with Norse mythology. Visually, it’s comprised of three interlocking triangles. Archaeologically, it appears on several runestones and pictorial memorial stones that date from the Viking Age and stand on the Swedish island of Gotland, as well as on grave goods from the Oseberg ship burial in Norway.[1] Its name isn’t mentioned in any period sources; valknut is a modern Norwegian compound word that means “knot of those fallen in battle” and was introduced by Norwegians who lived long after the Viking Age.
